Unit Overview- 22‑bed CVSD/Stepdown unit
- Ratios: 1:4–6
- Charting: Allscripts
- Scrubs: Navy blue
- Float: Travelers float first
- Orientation: 12‑hour unit orientation with preceptor
- Bradycardia, A‑fib, SVT
- CHF, CAD, NSTEMI, PVD
- PE, CVA/TIA
- Post‑op VATS, lobectomy, wedge resection
- Chest tubes, tracheotomy (no vents)
- TAVR
- Post‑op day 1 CABG (after ICU day 0)
- 2+ years recent Stepdown/PCU experience
- Epicardial pacing & chest tube experience required
- Drip titration: cardizem, amiodarone, procainamide, dopamine, dobutamine, heparin, insulin (rare)
- Monitor techs handle strip interpretation (Nihon Koden monitors)
- Charge nurse takes full patient assignment
- Nursing supervisor 24/7
- Nurse aides: 1:15
- RT available 24/7 hospital‑wide
- IV therapy team handles all IV sticks
- Self‑scheduling via committee
- Rotating: 2 weeks days / 2 weeks nights (if applicable)
- Nights: 6:45–7:15
- Weekends: EOW
- Holidays: Included in rotation
- BLS, ACLS
- Core Nursing Exam
- Ishihara Color Vision Screening
- Stepdown/PCU Exam
- Driver’s license required at submission
- Must meet 50‑mile radius rule
- No vents, no continuous BiPAP
- Cancellation: 2 shifts per 13‑week contract
- Only submit to one WVU facility at a time
