Position Overview
NYU Langone Suffolk Hospital is seeking an experienced Travel Pathologists’ Assistant to support its hospital laboratory team during a four-week assignment.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Pathologists’ Assistant seeking a short-term travel assignment with the potential to transition into an ongoing per diem opportunity following successful completion of the contract.
First-time travelers are welcome.
Required Qualifications- Master’s degree required.
- Previous hospital clinical laboratory experience.
- Surgical Pathology experience required.
- EPIC experience required.
- ASCP or ASCP-PA certification preferred.
- Strong knowledge of surgical pathology specimen handling and processing.
- Ability to work independently in a hospital laboratory environment.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to specimen identification, accuracy, and quality.
Key Responsibilities
Surgical Pathology- Perform gross examination and dissection of small biopsies and large/complex surgical specimens.
- Provide detailed macroscopic descriptions of gross anatomical features.
- Section surgical pathology specimens appropriately.
- Prepare tissue specimens for histological processing.
- Ensure specimens are properly received, identified, labeled, and documented.
- Follow established laboratory, quality, and safety procedures.
- Receive and accurately identify surgical pathology specimens.
- Ensure proper specimen labeling, handling, and processing.
- Maintain accurate documentation throughout the specimen workflow.
- Utilize EPIC for clinical documentation and laboratory-related activities.
- Obtain and review relevant patient clinical information.
- Review available scans, X-rays, laboratory results, and other clinical information as needed to support specimen evaluation.
- Perform gross and microscopic photography.
- Assist with image analysis and documentation.
- 4-week travel contract
- Primarily 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM
- Occasional 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM shifts
- 8-hour orientation
- EPIC experience required

Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is a qualified and experienced Pathologists’ Assistant with a Master’s degree, hospital laboratory experience, strong surgical pathology/grossing experience, and recent EPIC experience. The candidate should be comfortable handling both routine biopsies and large/complex surgical specimens and should be able to quickly adapt to a hospital laboratory environment for a short-term assignment.
