Overview:

Assists research activities by collecting and recording data, preparing reports and maintaining and updating records to include medical histories and other related department information.

Responsibilities:

  • Manages day-to-day procedures to include updating records, researching and tracking data, and coordinating office procedures related to the research activities.
  • Participate in discussions/meetings with Director and Fellows, regarding recent research work at national or international scientific meetings and discusses implications of the work with the scientists in different fields.
  • Serve as Research Coordinator of the Brookdale campus for various medical tests with vendors.
  • Responsible for operation and quality control of the Flow cytometer machine, microplate reader for basic Elisa and adhesion assay.
  • Conduct routine maintenance and troubleshooting procedures for equipment.
  • Maintain inventory and order supplies required for the running of tests.
  • Receive samples at the lab and ensure that they are properly unpacked, organized, stored and ready for processing.
  • Responsible for maintenance of all records and files relating to research conducted.
  • Responsible for maintaining the work area in an organized, orderly, and neat condition.
  • Create computer database entry forms, and enters dates from surveys and projects. May develop reports and may be required to provide basic summary of data.
  • Assist in the preparation of professional meetings and graphic presentations.
  • Writes reports, memos, and other publications as needed.
  • Report basic results of analysis and assists in the writing and editing of reports for publications.
  • Develop new data systems and monitors systems.
  • Perform literature searches.
  • Performs other related activities as directed.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate or higher degree in Biology or other scientific field preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum two (2) years prior experience in independent operation of a flow cytometer; preferably in molecular biology technique.
  • Prior experiences in cancer biology research preferred.
  • Experience in detector instrumentation research.
  • Experience in system integration of scientific instruments and high bandwidth data acquisition systems.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Basic computer skills, to include Microsoft Office (Word and excel).
  • Strong math skills preferred.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology preferred.
  • Ability to fully utilize OBH's electronic record systems, equipment and other healthcare and billing systems relevant to this position.

Physical Requirements:

  • Position requires prolonged periods of standing, reaching, walking throughout the working day.
  • Position will be required to stoops, bends, lifts, carry items weighing up to 75 pounds.
