Physical Therapy Aide

Job Summary:

Assists the therapist in the provision of high quality patient care in the department. Sets up equipment in preparation for patient treatments. Assists with routine therapy and maintains records and reports.

Job Duties:

Routine duties shall include providing health care services to individuals eligible for services in accordance with the self-governance compact and funding agreement between the Cherokee Nation and the United States executed under the authority of the Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act.
Practices only within the boundaries of competence, based on documented education, training, supervised experience, state and national professional credentials, and appropriate professional experience. Maintains department in a clean and orderly manner by cleaning equipment and treatment areas as directed.
Cleans equipment as required by applicable rules, regulations, and guidelines. Sets up equipment necessary for patient treatments, i.e. hot/cold packs, weights, pulleys, electrodes, and modality units. Prepares the patient to be seen by therapists by bringing them into treatment area.
Prepares patients for treatment and attains all necessary supplies for patient's treatment. Administers routine supervised physical therapy treatments to patients as directed. Reports to appropriate personnel any needed supplies or equipment repairs.
Maintains required data, files, and records. Prepares reports as directed. Schedules appointments and submits list to appropriate personnel. Types correspondence as directed. Communicates with patients, health care workers, employees of other organizations and customers by telephone.

Other duties may be assigned.

No supervisory responsibilities are required.

Qualifications:

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT

None required.

COMPUTER SKILLS

An individual should have knowledge of Internet and Word Processing software.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

None required.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

Employee must not and will not be under sanction by the United States Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General (OIG) or by the General Services Administration (GSA) or listed on the OIG’s Cumulative Sanction Report, or the GSA’s List of Excluded Providers, or listed on the OIG’s List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE).

Must meet and maintain pre-employment and periodic background investigation and adjudication for child care.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
