Senior Financial Reporting & Lease Accountant
Responsibilities:
The Financial Reporting team is responsible for delivering accurate, timely, and compliant financial information that enables confident decision‑making across the organization. This advanced professional role plays a critical part in shaping enterprise‑level reporting, with a specific focus on lease and property accounting for shopping center properties.
In this role, you will apply technical accounting expertise and real estate knowledge to oversee complex reporting matters, evolve reporting frameworks, and support strategic initiatives tied to a multi‑property retail portfolio. This position is well‑suited for a seasoned professional who values ownership, influence, and continuous growth while serving as a subject matter expert and mentor.
Key Responsibilities & Essential Functions
You will work independently with broad responsibility and influence, partnering with leadership and cross‑functional teams to drive reporting excellence:
- Lead the preparation and review of complex account reconciliations and variance analyses
- Preparation of GAAP‑compliant financial statements
- Apply expertise in lease and property accounting for shopping center properties, including:
- Review and analysis of lease commencements, amendments, renewals, terminations, and CAM reconciliations
- Evaluation of lease abstraction accuracy and ongoing lease data integrity
- Partner with property management and asset teams to validate financial data related to retail properties and tenant activity
- Support the implementation of new accounting standards and interpretations impacting real estate and lease accounting
- Continually assess, maintain, and enhance financial reporting and lease accounting processes, controls, and documentation
- Drive reporting and system enhancements related to lease and property accounting, including automation and data governance
- Analyze financial and portfolio trends and provide clear, actionable recommendations to senior leadership
- Mentor, coach, and review the work of other partners, contributing to capability building and knowledge transfer
- Drive enterprise‑level reporting strategy and develop advanced frameworks supporting compliance, analytics, and retail real estate insight

Qualifications & Key Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field and additional role-relevant experience. 7+ years of relevant experience in financial reporting, lease/property accounting, and/or public accounting preferred.- Strong knowledge of financial reporting principles, GAAP, and internal accounting policies
- Demonstrated expertise in lease and property accounting within a retail or shopping center environment preferred
- Experience managing projects and processes with enterprise‑wide impact
- Ability to guide the development of policies, procedures, and best practices within reporting and lease accounting
- Proven ability to coach, review, and elevate the work of other professionals
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and project management capabilities
- Strong written and verbal communication for higher level reporting
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting and lease management systems
- CPA certification preferred
