Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PCU Float position at a Level I Trauma Center, requiring Epic proficiency and comfort working across all PCU and Med-Surg units.
Details- Float position covering all PCU and Med-Surg units within a large acute care teaching hospital
- Level I Trauma Center (Adult & Pediatric), Magnet-designated facility affiliated with a medical school
- PCU patient ratio averages 5:1; Med-Surg patient ratio averages 6:1, with potential flex up to 7:1
- Staffing needs are re-evaluated every 4 hours, meaning travelers may float 2–3 times within a single shift
- Night shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts, 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM; 4x12 schedule available upon request
- Weekend requirement: every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts per 6-week scheduling block
- One holiday shift required per 13-week contract
- Epic EMR experience required
- Active VA state RN license or Compact RN license required; pending license accepted only for candidates holding a single-state license from a non-compact state
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Experience in IV therapy, phlebotomy, and blood product administration
- Skilled in central line care, trach management, and non-invasive airway support (nasal cannula, CPAP/BiPAP, and chest tubes including Emerson/PleurEvac)
- Proficient in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, titrating cardiac drips, and emergency response via Rapid Response/Code teams
- Experience managing PCA and heparin protocols, administering IV insulin, and caring for patients with endocrine/metabolic conditions
- Background in telemetry and stepdown-level care (PCU/DOU/IMC), with cardiovascular experience in pre/post cardiac cath settings
- Two professional references required for consideration
- Copy of driver's license and Social Security card required for consideration
- Candidate must be fully comfortable working across all PCU and Med-Surg units, as floating is a core expectation of this role
