Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN - Transport Nurse Specialist (ICU/ER) in Washington, DC, requiring a minimum of two years of critical care experience and an active, unrestricted DC RN license.
Details- 13-week travel contract with 36 hours per week
- 12-hour day shifts, 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM
- Working every other weekend is expected, as weekends are the primary staffing need for this role
- Performs inter-hospital critical care transport (air and/or land) in the Washington, DC area
- Patient population spans infants through adults, including hemodynamically unstable, critically ill pediatric, acute trauma, severe sepsis, and multisystem organ failure patients
- Conducts initial and ongoing patient assessments, clinical stabilization, and diagnostic, medical, and surgical interventions during transport
- Advanced invasive procedures are performed, including endotracheal intubation, chest wall decompression, escharotomy, cricothyroidotomy, pericardiocentesis, and central line insertion
- Active, unrestricted DC RN license required — must be clear with no disciplinary history
- BSN required
- Minimum of 2 years of recent critical care transport experience as a team leader, OR 2 years in a high-volume (50K+ visits/year) tertiary care ICU or ED, OR 3 years of combined ICU and/or ED critical care experience
- At least 2 years of prior U.S. hospital experience in the specialty area
- Current AHA certifications required: BLS, ACLS, TNCC, and NIHSS
- One advanced nursing certification preferred: CEN, CCRN, CTRN, or CFRN
- CPI certification required for this position
- Strong critical thinking, autonomous clinical decision-making, and leadership skills required
- Candidates must reside more than 25 miles from the facility to qualify for the travel assignment
- Two manager or supervisor references preferred, verifying experience within the most recent 12 months (at least one from the most recent employer)
- Active U.S. Social Security Number (SSN) required
- Date of birth (DOB) required for consideration
- Collaborates with physicians, residents, and interdisciplinary team members to problem-solve and implement treatment plans during transport
- Leads and delegates to the transport team, demonstrating effective communication and leadership in high-stress environments
- Supports the mission of the Center for Trauma and Critical Care and Emergency Services through constructive departmental and inter-organizational relationships
- A comprehensive critical care transport orientation program is provided upon hire
- Ongoing participation in clinical training, simulation labs, didactic education, research, and quality improvement activities is mandatory
- Training environments include the ED, ICU, and OR, with regularly scheduled simulation and skills labs covering advanced invasive procedures
- Must demonstrate knowledge of commonly used emergency medications, including dosing and efficacy
- Must comply with CAMTS regulatory requirements as well as departmental and hospital standards
- First-time travelers are not mentioned as eligible; a minimum of 2 years of relevant U.S. hospital experience is required
