Overview

Our client is seeking an experienced Ancillary Services Manager to lead Laboratory and Diagnostic Imaging (Radiology) Departments in a small, collaborative hospital environment. This leader will provide policy oversight, survey readiness support, and operational management, partnering closely with strong departmental Lead Technologists.

The Laboratory department has fewer than 20 FTEs, supported by a highly capable Lead Tech. Diagnostic Imaging is similarly structured with an experienced Rad Tech Lead assisting with daily operations. This role focuses on regulatory compliance, staff leadership, operational excellence, and patient-centered service delivery.

Key Responsibilities

Department Leadership & Operations
  • Provide day‑to‑day leadership and operational oversight for Laboratory and Radiology Departments
  • Partner with departmental Lead Techs to ensure efficient workflows and staffing coverage
  • Support policy and procedure development, implementation, and compliance
  • Prepare departments for inspections, audits, and regulatory surveys
Quality, Compliance, & Patient Care
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, including:
  • Washington Department of Health
  • HIPAA requirements
  • Oversee Quality Control (QC) and Quality Assurance (QA) programs
  • Review proficiency testing results and implement corrective actions as needed
  • Maintain laboratory licensure and inspection readiness
  • Ensure delivery of accurate, timely, and high-quality diagnostic services
People Management
  • Supervise and support staff performance through:
  • Hiring, onboarding, training, and coaching
  • Performance evaluations and corrective action
  • Employee engagement and retention efforts
  • Promote collaboration across departments and disciplines
Financial & Operational Accountability
  • Manage departmental budgets, billing practices, and long‑range planning
  • Monitor and maintain the chargemaster to ensure legally compliant reimbursement
  • Evaluate instrumentation, testing methodologies, and service offerings
  • Participate in organizational improvement initiatives aligned with hospital goals
Required Education & Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in medical technology or chemical, physical, or biological sciences
  • ASCP or AMT certification (Medical Technologist or Medical Laboratory Scientist)
  • Active Washington State Laboratory certification
  • Medical Assistant Phlebotomy License (Washington State Department of Health)
  • Minimum 5 years of clinical laboratory experience
  • Minimum 2 years of leadership/management experience, including:
  • Staff supervision
  • Project management
  • Performance metrics and employee engagement
  • Demonstrated experience with:
  • Laboratory licensure and inspections (WA DOH)
  • Regulatory compliance and accreditation standards
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven leadership, diplomacy, and cross‑functional collaboration skills
  • Commitment to continuous learning and process improvement
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree (MBA or biological sciences)
  • Active membership in a national registry (ASCP or equivalent)
  • 3–5 years managing Laboratory and Radiology Departments in a rural hospital setting
  • Experience with:
  • Senior or Executive Leadership participation
  • Strategic planning and employee engagement initiatives
  • Laboratory and Radiology contract negotiations
  • Union environments
  • Mentoring, teaching, and professional development programs
