Job Summary:
Assists in planning and organizing facility meetings such as CQI, Staff Meetings, and in- service.
Meets attendance and punctuality expectations.
- The Clinical Supervisor is a qualified professional nurse responsible for planning and organizing all patient and personnel activities in the hemodialysis unit on all shifts. He/she will assume authority for the operations of the facility in the absence of the Facility Administrator.
- Current license for registered nurse
- Baccalaureate degree preferred
- Minimum of one year in nursing to include six months’ experience in a hemodialysis unit

- Shares responsibility with Facility Administrator for hiring, evaluating, disciplining, and terminating staff.
- Prepares the monthly facility schedules (staff and patient); and makes daily staff assignments.
- Makes staffing adjustments to meet unplanned changes and notifies staff of such changes.
- As needed, coordinates acceptance of new patients, transfers & transients.
- Complies with all Medicare/ and other ESRD reporting requirements by completing and submitting all reports and survey forms promptly.
- Ensures availability of adequate supplies and equipment in conjunction with the Chief Technician.
- Maintains a therapeutic, safe and aesthetically acceptable physical environment.
- Plans and coordinates timely acceptance of new patients, transfers and transients.
- Supervises reuse personnel in the absence of the Chief Technician and notifies Chief Biomedical Technician of procedural and/or technical problems.

- Assist in management of payroll in coordination with the business office and assists new employees with benefit enrollment as directed by the Facility Administrator.
- Admits new patients to the facility, including initial nursing assessment, signing of consents and completion of medication list.
- Communicates regularly with nephrologist regarding patient needs.
- Supervises and performs initiation, monitoring and termination of dialysis as needed.
- Ensures that nursing care is coordinated with the prescribed medical plan of care and maintains effective communication with the medical staff for collaborative planning.
- Ensures that all incidents are reported in an accurate and timely manner.
- Participates in direct patient care.
- Initiation of lifesaving corrective measures, including those necessary in treating shock.
- Responsible for patient care planning and follow-up.
- Oversees patient medication review at least quarterly.
- Makes regular patient rounds to identify patient needs, assess quality of care and resolve patient problems.
- Maintains infection control with regard to the employees, patients, visitors, housekeeping and other services.
- Supervises completion of quarterly patient emergency procedure review.
- Monitor stock medications for expiration dates and quantity.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Work is active; requires frequent lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs., for assisting with patient lifts and transfers and moving pieces of equipment and supplies.
- Requires long periods of standing and walking, as well as frequently sitting, reaching at or above shoulder height, twisting and stooping/bending to perform patient care duties.
- Finger and hand dexterity adequate to handle and manipulate equipment, instruments, keyboarding, telephone systems.
- Hearing and vision acuity adequate to detect changes in equipment and detect machine alarms.
- Able to alter plans/routines when unexpected, stressful situations and multiple interruptions occur without projecting stress/frustrations that would adversely affect the work environment.
- Maintains professionalism and confidentiality with socially challenging situations and problems.
- Notify and offer immediate solutions for potential threatening, belligerent, or emotional situations involving disconcerted employees, patients and/or patient families.

- Exposure to chemicals used within the facility (Renalin, Bleach and Acidified Concentrate; refer to MSDS for other chemicals used within the facility).
- Exposure to blood and other potentially infectious materials (ongoing training provided for employee safety).
