responsibilities:

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Specimen Processing: Perform high-volume manual functions including sorting, racking, centrifugation, and aliquoting of clinical specimens.
  • Logistics & Distribution: Manage the timely pickup and delivery of specimens to various laboratory departments to ensure seamless testing workflows.
  • Quality & Compliance: Identify and resolve issues regarding specimen types or missing information, ensuring all actions align with strict clinical compliance and safety regulations.
  • Data Integrity: Maintain accurate, legible documentation of all processes and utilize mainframe computer systems to research test order information and translation tables.
  • Inventory & Maintenance: Maintain a clean and organized workspace following 5S workplace standards and assist with specimen storage and archival procedures.
  • Team Collaboration: Actively contribute to a team-based environment, supporting departmental goals regarding staffing needs, including flexibility for rotational Saturdays and overtime as required.

Required:

  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Technical Skills: Basic data entry proficiency and the ability to learn complex laboratory computer systems.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to sit, stand, or walk for long periods; ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and maneuver large specimen carts/racks.
  • Attributes: Exceptional organizational skills, the ability to maintain composure under pressure, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Adaptability: Flexibility to work in a biohazard environment and adjust to changing compliance regulations and work schedules (Monday-Friday with rotational Saturdays).

Preferred:

  • Experience: Previous experience in a high-volume production or manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge: Background in healthcare or life sciences, including familiarity with medical terminology applicable to a clinical laboratory.
  • Systems: Prior experience with mainframe computers or laboratory information systems (LIS).
