Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Pediatric Hematology/Oncology position requiring BMT knowledge and an active MI RN license.

Details
  • Work in the Hematology/Oncology unit of a children's hospital, including a newly opened adult outpatient program within the pediatric facility
  • Care for patients with leukemia, blood dyscrasias, lymphoma, non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, and multiple myeloma
  • Patient ratio of 1:2
  • Day shift schedule, 4x12-hour shifts from 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM
  • Required to work every other weekend
  • On-call responsibilities required
  • Perform cell and gene therapy administration, blood product administration, chemotherapy and conditioning treatment administration, supportive care, and triage
Requirements
  • Active MI RN license required in-hand at time of consideration (compact license not accepted)
  • Current BLS certification required
  • Chemotherapy certification (ONS/ONCC) and OCN certification preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant nursing experience required
  • Bone Marrow Transplant experience required (administering cells not required)
  • Teaching hospital experience preferred
  • Previous charge nurse experience preferred
  • Skilled in IV therapy/infusions, port access and management, central line care, and PICC line care
  • Experience with chemotherapy administration, monitoring, and management of cytotoxic spills
  • Ability to recognize and manage oncologic emergencies including anaphylaxis, extravasation injury, and sepsis
  • Experience with symptom management including nausea/vomiting, altered mental status, and constipation/diarrhea
  • Knowledge of neutropenic precautions and isolation/PPE protocols
  • Two professional references required from a manager or supervisor (charge RNs not accepted)
Additional Information
  • Provide comprehensive care including chemotherapy administration, blood product administration, and cell and gene therapy administration
  • Perform patient triage and coordinate care across the hematology/oncology unit
  • Offer patient and family education and psychosocial support
  • Work within a teaching hospital environment
  • No pre-hire training modules required; all onboarding modules completed onsite during orientation
  • Required certifications must be obtained prior to start date
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • No RTO permitted during the first week of the contract
  • Local candidates accepted at the same pay rate
  • Traveler pairs are not accepted for this position
  • Candidates previously employed by the client facility within the last 12 months are not eligible to apply
  • Permanent staff may return as travelers after a one-year separation
