Department Overview:

The Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at OHSU specializes in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of digestive and liver diseases. Our physicians and advanced practice providers are nationally recognized leaders in education, research, and clinical care.

As the only academic medical center in Oregon, we have a collaborative relationship with primary care and subspecialty providers across the state and Pacific Northwest.

Function/Duties of Position:

The provider will serve as a dedicated, specialized GI psychologist and will operate primarily out of the ambulatory clinics within the Digestive Health Center except in very limited circumstances when GI psych expertise is needed for a hospitalized patient.

The primary function of the GI psychologist is to provide diagnostic assessment, complex medication management and psychotherapy-based practices including ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) and CBD (Cognitive Based Therapy) to support complex patients with chronic gastrointestinal diseases such as inflammatory bowel disease, functional GI disorders, and chronic liver disease.

Specialized expertise in GI psychology will be applied in diagnosis and treatment, given the profound interrelationship between GI symptomatology and mental health, and the direct impact of pharmacologic neuromodulation on gut function.

This Psychology position will be fully embedded within the GI division with an expectation of and opportunities for division-specific conference attendance, presentations at local and regional meetings and collaboration with national GI psych experts.

Required Qualifications:

  • Doctoral degree (PhD/PsyD) in Psychology, supervised experience, and passing the Examination for Professional Practice in Psychology (EPPP)
  • Strong preference for those having completed additional training in chronic illness management/consult liaison psychiatry/cognitive behavioral therapy and/or acceptance and commitment therapy

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Candidates with diverse backgrounds and experiences are highly encouraged to apply

Why apply to OHSU?: We are Oregon's only public academic health center.

In addition to caring for patients, we lead groundbreaking research. We also train the next generation of health care professionals. As Portland's largest employer, we give you opportunities to learn and advance in a system of hospitals and clinics across Oregon and Southwest Washington.
