Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Medical Rehabilitation Unit (MRU) Long Term Acute Care position requiring prior travel experience and experience with respiratory/vented patients.

Details
  • Position is based in a Long Term Acute Care (LTAC) hospital setting on the Medical Rehabilitation Unit (MRU/CMU), a medically complex rehabilitation environment — not a traditional Med/Surg unit
  • Primary patient population includes LVAD, CVA, ABI, SCI, wound care, CAPD, and ventilator-dependent patients
  • Patient ratios on the MRU: 1:7 (days/evenings), 1:9 (nights)
  • 12-hour night shifts, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
  • Every other weekend is required
  • Floating is required to like units based on weekly census need, with respiratory units having the highest demand
  • Float units include the Respiratory Care Unit/Respiratory Step-Down (ratios 1:9 days/evenings, 1:12 nights), TBI/Medically Complex Chronic Care TRU (ratios 1:7–10 days/evenings, 1:12 nights), and a satellite campus Medical/Rehab/Respiratory unit (ratios 1:5–8, average 6–7)
  • Float RNs will not be assigned to pediatric units unless pedi-specific experience is confirmed
Requirements
  • Active CT or Compact RN license currently in hand
  • Current BLS certification required; ACLS preferred
  • Minimum 1–2 years of RN experience required
  • Prior travel nursing experience required
  • Experience with respiratory and/or ventilator-dependent patients strongly preferred (nurses do not manage vents — respiratory therapists handle ventilator management)
  • Ability to perform IV starts, drip management, blood administration, EKGs, medication titration, glucose monitoring, wound vac changes, complex and simple wound dressings, trach care, suctioning, straight catheterization, Foley care, port access, central line dressing changes, and wound measurements
Additional Information
  • This is a 13-week assignment
  • RNs are responsible for a broad scope of procedures including IV access, drip and medication titration, blood administration, EKGs, glucose monitoring, wound care (including wound vac), trach care, suctioning, catheter care, port access, and central line dressing changes
  • Respiratory therapists manage ventilators; RNs are not responsible for vent management
