MATERIAL EXAMINER AND IDENTIFIER (FORKLIFT OPERATOR) with Security Clearance

Duties

  • Receives, examines, verifies, and identifies complex categories of materials and equipment.

Uses and maintains tools and equipment.

-Performs a broad range of standard traffic management in-checking assignments.
Performs a full range of warehousing duties.
Serves as a senior worker overseeing one or more product lines or a segment of a large warehouse, assisting the supervisor in development of plans for temporary storage and arrangement of received cargo.
  • Reviews Commercial Bills of Lading (CBL), carrier freight bills, truck manifests, and inspects shipments for any discrepancies to AA&E, classified, hazardous or general cargo and ensures dating is correct, properly identified, packaged, marked and labeled.
  • Monitors special programs, computerized listings, and documentation/records and completes Supply Discrepancy Report (SDR) and Transportation Discrepancy Report (TDR).
  • Utilizes safety and security practices and procedures following established rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work area.

  • This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program.
  • Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing.

Qualifications In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-6900 Warehousing and Stock Handling Group; Materials Handling.

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying.

Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.
The screen out element for this position is to perform the duties of a Materials Examiner Identifier (FLO/MVO), WG-6912-07, without more than normal supervision.
JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1.
Knowledge of Department of Defense, Air Force and MAJCOM requisition, packaging, receiving policies, directives, manuals, OI's, and Special Packaging Instructions.
Knowledge of warehousing methods, procedures, and techniques; item identification, codes, warehouse plans, storage areas, and inventory procedures.
Knowledge of safety and security regulations, practices, and procedures.
  1. Knowledge of special handling techniques and procedures required for the processing of hazardous, sensitive, classified, and Arms, Ammunition, and Explosives.
  2. Knowledge of receiving, storing, issuing functions, and relative to the assigned commodities and supply and transportation management automated computer systems, ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  3. Skill in using hand and industrial power tools, such as hammers, drills, crowbars, table and radial saws, and pneumatic nail guns, to repair/replace cargo containers received in damaged/unserviceable condition.
  4. Skill in laying out storage space and establishing item and material locations in accordance with agency regulations and to determine sequences for loading incoming shipments for maximum space utilization, safety considerations, and damage protection.
  5. Ability to conduct comprehensive searches of manufacturers catalogs, technical orders, schematics, and computerized data, to identify unique and specialized items or those which lack proper identification or documentation.

Physical Effort: The work requires moderate to heavy lifting when moving material by hand or hand truck, walking and standing for prolonged periods of time; and bending, stooping, and pushing and pulling heavy material along conveyor lines.

The materials handling work may require working on hard surfaces and lifting and carrying weights up to 40 pounds.

May handle heavier items with weight lifting equipment or with assistance from other workers.

Working Conditions: Work is performed inside in a warehouse environment and outside on year-round basis.

Subject to cuts, bruises, abrasions, scrapes, falling material, injury from equipment in moving or handling materials and equipment, and hazards involved in working in proximity to moving equipment such as fork lifts, trucks, cranes, and conveyor lines.

For materials handling duties, employee may be subject to hot, damp, cold, drafty, or poorly lighted areas; exposed to dust, dirt, grease, solvents, and high noise areas in a mechanical work area; or radiation, toxics, explosive hazardous, or chemica1 fumes while working hazardous materials area.

May be required to wear protective clothing such as hard hats, steel-toed shoes, rubber gloves, masks, and rubber aprons.

When handling hazardous materials, protective equipment is provided.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work.

You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
