Practice Administrator/CEO

Summary
An independently owned, physician-led pathology group with over 90 years of service in Northern California is seeking a highly strategic and financially driven Chief Executive Officer. The organization includes approximately 30 pathologists across multiple subspecialties, a fully operational AP/CP laboratory, and a second laboratory currently under development in a neighboring state.
The CEO will be responsible for driving financial performance, operational efficiency, and sustainable growth across a complex, multi-site organization. This role requires a leader with a strong business acumen who can develop and execute strategies that expand market presence, optimize profitability, and position the organization for long-term success.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Provide executive leadership with a primary focus on financial performance, profitability, and scalable growth.
- Partner with the President and Board of Directors to develop and execute strategic initiatives that drive revenue growth, market expansion, and enterprise value.
- Lead all financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, financial planning, and performance analysis; ensure disciplined expense management and margin optimization.
- Identify and execute growth opportunities, including new hospital contracts, service line expansion, geographic expansion, and strategic partnerships.
- Oversee the successful development and launch of a new laboratory in a neighboring state, ensuring financial viability and return on investment.
- Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and accountability measures across the organization to track financial and operational success.
- Optimize revenue cycle performance, reimbursement strategies, and payer contracting to maximize collections and profitability.
- Drive operational efficiencies across laboratory and administrative functions to improve throughput, reduce costs, and enhance scalability.
- Evaluate and implement technology and data analytics solutions to support financial transparency, operational insight, and decision-making.
- Lead high-level contract negotiations with hospitals, health systems, and payers with a focus on favorable financial outcomes.
- Provide regular, data-driven financial and operational reports to the Board, including performance against budget and strategic goals.
- Ensure appropriate organizational structure and talent alignment to support growth objectives and financial targets.
- Maintain compliance with regulatory requirements (e.g., CAP, CLIA) while balancing cost efficiency and operational effectiveness.
- Monitor industry trends, reimbursement changes, and competitive dynamics to proactively adjust strategy and maintain a strong market position.
Education and Experience
Bachelors degree required; MBA, MHA, or other relevant advanced degree strongly preferred- Minimum of 810 years of executive leadership experience with significant financial oversight in healthcare, preferably in pathology, laboratory services, or physician group management
- Demonstrated success driving revenue growth, improving profitability, and scaling healthcare organizations
- Strong background in financial management, including P&L responsibility, budgeting, forecasting, and revenue cycle optimization
- Experience with multi-site operations, laboratory expansion, and new venture development strongly preferred
- Proven success in contract negotiation, payer strategy, and hospital partnerships
- Strong financial acumen with a results-oriented mindset
- Strategic and analytical thinker with the ability to translate data into actionable growth strategies
- Confident decision-maker with accountability for financial outcomes
- Excellent leadership, communication, and negotiation skills
- Ability to influence physician stakeholders and build alignment around growth initiatives
- Entrepreneurial, proactive, and driven to achieve measurable results
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Experience with financial reporting systems, practice management systems, laboratory information systems (LIS), and data analytics platforms preferred
