Web Application Developer - Defense Technology with Security Clearance

apartmentEverPresent Talent placeWashington calendar_month
Overview EverPresent Talent is partnering with a leading defense technology organization to hire a Web Application Developer supporting a large-scale platform used across U.S. government and national security missions. This is not a traditional website-development role.
You will build mission-critical, data-intensive web applications that help military analysts, government operators, and other end users understand complex information and make operational decisions. Engineers work within small, highly collaborative product teams and are expected to take meaningful ownership of features from understanding the user problem through design, development, deployment, and continued iteration.

What You'll Do Build sophisticated frontend applications using React, TypeScript, and JavaScript.

Develop highly interactive, data-intensive user interfaces for complex operational workflows.
Build visualization experiences involving large datasets, geospatial information, alerts, reporting, and real-time data.
Work directly with users to understand mission requirements and translate them into scalable software.
Own features throughout the full development lifecycle from design and architecture through production.
Collaborate closely with backend engineers, product teams, designers, and technical stakeholders.
Integrate frontend applications with APIs and backend services.
Diagnose and solve complex frontend performance, state-management, and usability challenges.
Build accessible software for government environments, including Section 508 / WCAG considerations.

Participate in an Agile engineering environment while maintaining a high degree of individual ownership. Required Qualifications 2–5 years of professional software engineering experience, primarily in frontend or frontend-leaning full-stack development.

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, or a closely related technical discipline preferred.
Strong professional experience with React, TypeScript, and JavaScript.
Experience building complex production applications beyond basic CRUD applications, marketing sites, or static webpages.
Strong understanding of modern frontend architecture, application state, APIs, browser behavior, and performance.
Demonstrated ownership of meaningful features or projects from initial requirements through production.
Experience working with backend services and an understanding of full-stack application architecture.
Strong computer science fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, and software design.
Ability to communicate technical decisions clearly to both engineering and non-technical stakeholders.
U.S. citizen and eligible to obtain a U.S. government security clearance.
Willing and able to work primarily on-site in the Washington, DC area. Preferred Qualifications Experience building data visualization, mapping, geospatial, analytics, command-and-control, monitoring, or other data-heavy applications.
Experience with 2D/3D visualization, WebGL, mapping frameworks, or large-scale interactive datasets.
Previous defense, intelligence, federal government, aerospace, or national-security technology experience.
Experience working directly with government users, military operators, analysts, or other highly specialized end users.
Familiarity with Section 508 / WCAG accessibility standards.
Experience in a high-growth technology company, startup, or other high-ownership engineering environment.
Experience contributing to design systems or reusable frontend architecture.
Exposure to cloud environments, CI/CD pipelines, and modern software delivery practices. What Makes Someone Successful in This Role The strongest engineers for this team are not simply strong React developers. They enjoy understanding why users need a feature, working through ambiguous technical problems, and taking responsibility for the finished product.

You'll likely thrive here if you enjoy: Owning difficult technical problems rather than narrowly defined tickets.

Working closely with sophisticated end users.
Turning complex data into intuitive workflows.
Building software where reliability and usability have real-world consequences.
Working alongside highly technical engineers in small, collaborative teams.
Continuously learning new technologies and problem domains. Why Consider This Opportunity? You'll have the opportunity to work on software used in real-world national security environments where frontend engineering directly influences how users understand information and make decisions.

The work combines sophisticated web engineering, complex datasets, operational users, and a high degree of technical ownership. If you're a strong frontend engineer looking for work with greater technical complexity and real-world impact, we'd like to hear from you.
