We’re hiring an experienced Respiratory Therapist for a local healthcare provider where you’ll be responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the treatment, care, and needs of patients with breathing disorders.
Minimum Requirements:
- Associate or bachelor’s degree from a Respiratory Therapy or Cardiopulmonary Science program.
- Current state Respiratory Therapist license in good standing with the Illinois state licensing board.
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential required.
- Minimum one year of recent clinical experience as an RRT in an acute care hospital setting. Experience with ventilator management, invasive and non‑invasive ventilation, and mechanical ventilators is required.
- Demonstrated proficiency with arterial blood gas collection and interpretation, oximetry, and capnography monitoring.
- Experience performing airway management procedures including endotracheal tube insertion, tracheostomy care, suctioning, and bronchoscopy assistance.
- Experience with chest physiotherapy, chest tube/PleurX management, pulmonary function testing (NIF, VC), and 12‑lead EKG acquisition and basic arrhythmia recognition.
- BLS certification required. ACLS certification preferred.
- Familiarity with respiratory care documentation, charge capture, and use of respiratory therapy equipment maintenance procedures.

Standard Job Description:
Respiratory Therapist provides quality patient care, delivering intensive respiratory care and patient transport into and out of the facility as medically prescribed, within the scope of professional license and with minimal supervision. Evaluates patients and recommends treatment plans.Explains purpose and procedure of treatments, tests, and equipment to patients and provides necessary education upon discharge.
Performs physician‑prescribed routine and advanced respiratory treatments, operates ventilatory equipment (invasive and non‑invasive), oxygen and aerosol devices, nebulizers, and provides humidification, ventilation and oxygenation therapy. Conducts chest physiotherapy and performs suctioning by various methods.Performs oximetry and capnography monitoring according to policy. Reviews chest x‑rays to determine need for further evaluation. Performs 12‑lead EKGs and basic arrhythmia recognition. Performs pulmonary function studies according to policy. Assists with respiratory procedures (bronchoscopy, percutaneous trachs, chest tube placement) and manages chest drainage devices where applicable.
Performs tracheostomy care, arterial puncture for blood gas analysis, and documents results. Sets up, tests, operates, maintains and monitors mechanical ventilators. Participates in preventative maintenance and repair coordination. Records all pertinent treatment information and communicates with physicians regarding therapy effectiveness.
Reports necessary information during shift handoffs. Maintains accurate respiratory therapy charging and documentation. Performs CPR per BLS/ACLS guidelines. Performs other duties as assigned.
