Program Overview
The SOAR (Student-Centered Opportunities for Access and Readiness) program is a flexible, inclusive support model designed to ensure students with higher-level learning and social-emotional/ self-regulation needs can access, participate in, and progress within general education settings to the greatest extent possible.Participation in the program aligns individualized goals, targeted instruction, and accommodations with Chilean inclusion laws, including Ley TEA. The program uses a dynamic staffing approach guided by a SOAR Program Learning Support Teacher in addition to push-in, small-group, and individualized support provided by qualified assistant teachers.
Overall, SOAR prioritizes strengths-based, student-centered practices that integrate academic, social-emotional, and regulation supports.
The position
SOAR program (Student-centered opportunities for access and readiness) assistant teachers provide flexible, student-centered support across learning environments. They facilitate access, participation, and independence by supporting academic tasks, regulation, and engagement—moving away from 1:1 dependency toward a dynamic, needs-based support model.

- Bachelor's Degree in Special Education, Occupational Therapy or a related field (an Educador Diferencial or psicopedagoga preferred).
- 2 years of experience working working with students with both behavioral/self-regulation challenges and identified learning disabilities (specific training in this area preferred).
- Excellent interpersonal skills; the ability to work in a highly collaborative environment.
- Ability to use and support others in data-based decision making and progress monitoring strategies.
- Proficient in written and spoken English and Spanish.
- Skills and training for effective technology integration.
- You are passionate about providing a safe, inclusive learning environment where children thrive.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
Push-In Classroom Support- Support students within general education classrooms by:
- Removing barriers to learning by scaffolding tasks
- Clarifying directions and expectations
- Supporting organization, initiation, and participation of learning
- Promote student independence and positive peer interactions
- Implement accommodations and individualized strategies from student student plans
- Assist with:
- Small-group instruction led by the SOAR Program Learning Support Teacher
- Provide targeted support and skill building practice based on student needs in a small group and/or 1:1 setting instruction in areas such as literacy, math, EF, and social skills)
- Support students in:
- Modeling and encouraging the use of self regulation strategies and sensory tools
- Support the navigating of transition and unstructured times
- Implement behavior and regulation plans consistently
- Provide positive reinforcement for expected behaviors
- Work closely with:
- SOAR Learning Support teacher
- Classroom teachers
- Student support team
- Share observations and contribute to student planning
- Implement progress monitoring strategies for engagement, behavior/dysregulations, task completion, independence, etc. in alignment with the student's support plan and individualized goals.
- Contribution to documentation such as logs, notes, progress monitoring, and student support plans such as ILPs.
Work Environment
Physical demands may include supervising breaks and supporting students in multiple learning environments and school activities (Homeroom, PE, Library/Media Center).
