Editorial Internship (Summer 2026)
WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING
6AM City is seeking an editorial intern to produce BizBrief newsletters in 2 Southeast markets, including: Asheville, NC; Charleston, SC; Charlotte, NC; Columbia, SC; Greenville, SC; Nashville, TN; Raleigh, NC; and/or Winston-Salem, NC. BizBrief is a daily local business newsletter covering what professionals, entrepreneurs, and civic leaders need to know — written in a voice that's conversational, digestible, and distinctly focused on the cities we’re writing for.
This is a writing-forward role. With support from our Senior Managing Editor and other editorial/product team members, interns will own the full production of each assigned issue: sourcing stories, writing snappy briefs, curating events, and closing with a voice that feels like a trusted local contact.
Weekly deliverables are required in this role. This intern will be assigned to write, edit, and publish 2 market newsletters each week — additional opportunities may be available at the end of the internship. The initial contract term is 4 months (May 11 - Aug.31, 2026) and is eligible for extension, or potential conversion to a contract or full-time position.
Responsibilities- Research, write, and edit each issue of BizBrief for assigned markets, covering local business news, development, civic updates, jobs, notable openings, networking events, and real estate listings
- Aggregate, summarize, write, and edit recurring sections including news briefs, an events agenda, real estate listings, and a closing Wrap
- Curate a weekly events calendar, including editor's picks and networking opportunities relevant to the local business community
- Localize statewide, regional, or national business and economic trends — including emerging topics like AI — to your assigned markets
- Maintain a consistent, branded voice across all sections and markets
- Source content daily from local news outlets, business journals, chambers of commerce, and community contacts
- Attend once-weekly content planning meetings with the Senior Managing Editor
- Meet tight weekly production deadlines with reliability and minimal oversight
- 1+ years of experience or study in journalism, business writing, or newsletter production
- 1+ years experience or study with email publishing platforms and content management systems
- Strong short-form writing skills — you can be informative and punchy in two sentences
- Familiarity with the Carolinas business landscape and knowledge of one or more target markets or industries is a strong plus
- Comfortable covering a broad beat: economic development, real estate, civic news, workforce, and local business culture
- Tech-literate and curious — you follow trends (including AI) and can translate them for a general business audience
- Self-directed with excellent news judgment and the ability to identify what matters to a local professional audience
