Duties and Responsibilities

Government Affairs & Advocacy
  • Develop and execute comprehensive government relations strategies aligned withcorporate priorities and long-term business objectives.
  • Monitor legislative, regulatory, and political developments impacting the company’s operations, industry, and growth strategy.
  • Represent the company before government agencies, elected officials, trade associations, decision makers, and industry coalitions.
  • Build and maintain productive relationships with policymakers, regulators, legislative staff, and external stakeholders.
  • Coordinate advocacy efforts related to pending legislation, regulatory rulemaking, and public policy initiatives.
  • Draft policy position papers, testimony, briefing materials, and executive talking points.
Corporate Strategy & Executive Support
  • Advise senior leadership on political, legislative, and regulatory risks and opportunities.
  • Provide strategic counsel regarding public policy implications of business initiatives, transactions, and market expansion plans.
  • Prepare executive briefings for meetings with government officials, trade groups, and industry events.
  • Support crisis management and issue-response efforts involving government orregulatory matters.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner with Legal, Compliance, Investor Relations, ESG, Communications, and business unit leaders to ensure coordinated external engagement.
  • Ensure alignment between government affairs strategy and corporate messaging.
  • Collaborate with compliance teams to maintain adherence to lobbying disclosure laws, ethics requirements, and political contribution regulations.
External Engagement & Industry Leadership
  • Represent the company in industry associations, policy forums, and public-private initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities to influence policy outcomes through coalition-building and stakeholder engagement.
  • Oversee relationships with external lobbying firms, consultants, and policy advisors.
Reporting & Analysis
  • Track and analyze political and regulatory developments affecting the business environment.
  • Prepare regular reports for executive leadership regarding government affairs activity, emerging policy risks, and advocacy outcomes.
  • Maintain records and reporting necessary for compliance with applicable lobbying and disclosure requirements.
Required Skills and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Public Policy, Law, Business Administration, or related field required.
  • Advanced degree (JD, MPA, MBA, or related) preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in government relations, public policy, legislative affairs, or corporate affairs.
  • Experience within a publicly traded company strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated understanding of legislative and regulatory processes at federal and state levels.
  • Strong network of government and industry relationships relevant to the company’s sector.
  • Experience managing external lobbying firms and trade association participation.
  • Excellent written, verbal, negotiation, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to synthesize complex policy issues into actionable business recommendations.
  • High level of discretion, integrity, and political judgment.
Preferred Experience
  • Experience in a regulated industry such as healthcare, energy, technology, financial services, telecommunications, manufacturing, or transportation.
  • Familiarity with SEC-related disclosure considerations and public company governance practices.
  • Experience supporting ESG, sustainability, or public affairs initiatives.
  • Prior experience in government service, legislative offices, or regulatory agencies is a plus.
