Description
American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry position at a Chest Pain and Stroke Center hospital in Charlotte, NC, requiring at least 18 months of Med/Tele experience and cardiac rhythm interpretation skills.
Details- Work in a 34-bed Cardiac Telemetry unit at a 337-bed hospital designated as a Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center
- Patient population includes medical and telemetry patients with diagnoses such as ESRD, CHF, pneumonia, sickle cell crisis, diabetes/DKA, acute/chronic renal failure, and wound care; primarily medical with few surgical patients
- Beginning Spring 2026, the unit will also care for Hematology/Oncology patients; travelers will not be required to administer chemotherapy but must be comfortable caring for this population
- Patient ratios: 1:5 on days, 1:6 on nights, with potential surge ratios of 1:7–8
- 12-hour night shifts, 7:00 PM–7:00 AM, 36 hours per week
- Every other weekend rotation required
- Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
- Floating is required within Region 2 (Pineville, Anson, Union, Union West, and Central Division including CMC Main, CMC Mercy, and Levine Children's Hospital) per regional needs and within scope of practice — candidates who are not agreeable to this floating requirement should not apply
- EMR: Epic
- IV pumps: Alaris; medication dispensing: Omnicell; monitors: Philips; communication: Rover
- No on-call or call-back requirements
- Active NC RN license or compact RN license currently in hand
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
- ONS certification preferred but not required; certified travelers may administer chemotherapy if applicable
- Minimum 18 months of Med/Surg Telemetry RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
- Proficiency in cardiac rhythm interpretation required
- Experience with non-titrating cardiac drips (e.g., Cardizem, Amiodarone) required; manager approval may be considered for candidates without this experience
- General Med/Surg skills required: care of patients with tubes/drains, IV starts, blood product administration, wound care, and dressing changes
- Candidate's permanent address must be at least 50 miles from the facility; local candidates are not accepted
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
- Minimum of one professional reference dated within the past year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
- This is a newer unit that opened in January 2025, known for a welcoming, psychologically safe, and just/fair culture
- Robust support staff includes CNAs (1:12 ratio), 24/7 receptionist/HUC, charge nurse, 24/7 phlebotomy, 24/7 IV/VAT team, a unit-dedicated pharmacist, two case managers, a MedSurg Clinical Nurse Specialist, 24/7 respiratory therapy, a nurse educator, 24/7 hospitalist, and telemetry monitoring technicians
- Orientation includes a New Employee Orientation (NEO) and 2 days of departmental orientation
- RNs are required to wear navy blue scrubs
