Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced NICU RN with a minimum of 3 years of Level 3 or 4 ICN experience for a 13-week night shift contract in North Carolina.

Details
  • Work in a NICU at an acute care hospital setting
  • Patient population includes premature infants (as low as 22 weeks gestation), surgical infants, and hypoxic injury cases
  • Specialized procedures include Therapeutic Hypothermia, Nitric Oxide, UAC/UVC, PCL, Broviac, Trachs, G-tube, and Ostomy care
  • Equipment used includes Tecotherm, BCPAP, Ram NC, Alaris IV pumps, Med Fusion for feedings, Servo Vents, HFOV, Baby Leo, and Giraffe
  • EMR system is Epic (experience preferred)
  • Patient ratios of 1:2–4
  • 12-hour night shifts (18:45–07:15), 36 hours per week
  • Weekend requirement of 3 Fridays, 3 Saturdays, and 3 Sundays per 6-week period
  • No on-call requirements
  • Floating may be required to Peds, PICU, or Nursery for infants up to 12 months of age
  • Self-scheduling per unit needs
Requirements
  • Active NC or compact RN license required
  • Current certifications: BLS and NRP
  • Minimum of 3 years of NICU experience in a Level 3 or 4 ICN required
  • Ventilator experience required
  • Two professional manager/supervisor references from within the past 2 years are required (pending at time of consideration is acceptable, but must be provided prior to start)
Additional Information
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Local candidates are accepted; candidates residing within 50 miles of the facility may be eligible at a different pay rate
  • Previous permanent, PRN, or EP staff employees of Novant Health or New Hanover must have a 12-month gap before being eligible to work as a traveler
  • No time off (RTO) is permitted during the first week of the assignment due to orientation; RTO requests cannot be arranged on-site after booking
  • Up to 7 days of RTO may be approved as long as it does not fall on a holiday; additional RTO requires facility approval
  • Candidates must be available to work 2 out of 3 major holidays
  • Unit orientation consists of 24 hours, with weekly orientation sessions
  • Pre-start modules (approximately 8–10 hours for acute care roles) are required and must also be completed annually
  • Scrub color requirement: navy blue or white
  • Travel pairs are permitted, though each traveler must have their own transportation and be comfortable with potentially different schedules
