Description:

AFO is looking a Heavy Equipment Mechanic to work in Fort Carson, CO. The Heavy Equipment Mechanic analyzes malfunctions and repairs, rebuilds and maintains power equipment, such as cranes, power shovels, scrapers, paving machines, motor graders, trench-digging machines, conveyors, bulldozers, dredges, pumps, compressors and pneumatic tools.
This worker operates and inspects machines or equipment to diagnose defects, dismantles and reassembles equipment, using hoists and hand tools, examines parts for damage or excessive wear, using micrometers and gauges, replaces defective engines and subassemblies, such as transmissions, and tests overhauled equipment to insure operating efficiency.

The mechanic welds broken parts and structural members, may direct workers engaged in cleaning parts and assisting with assembly and disassembly of equipment, and may repair, adjust and maintain mining machinery, such as stripping and loading shovels, drilling and cutting machines, and continuous mining machines.

The Emergency Vehicle Maintenance Technician (EVT) performs difficult skilled mechanical work and repair of the fire equipment and apparatuses. The EVT assist other division and does related work as required.

Responsibilities:

  • Diagnoses mechanical problems, determines required repair procedure and performs a full range of overhaul, repair and service of Emergency Vehicle Equipment systems. Ensures quality of work and required tools and materials are to be used.
  • Ensures work is complete and conforms to standards and requirements IAW NFPA standards, technical manuals, state and federal DOT regulations, and local SOPs.
  • Emergency Vehicle Technician analyzes malfunctions and performs services on emergency vehicles such as fire trucks, ladder trucks, ARFF trucks, and other fire equipment as needed.
  • Troubleshoot/Repair/Rebuild fire truck pump systems to include engine and transmission diagnostics, overhaul and repair, fire (water) pump diagnostics, overhaul and repair. Performs after repair return to service and annual Pump Testing as required in accordance with NFPA Standards.
  • Performs diversified electrical work such as troubleshooting electrical problems with the ability to understand electrical schematics fold outs on emergency vehicle apparatuses.
  • Performs initial, in-process and final inspections of work orders.
  • Assures that equipment and supplies are utilized properly.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Supervisor or Lead mechanic.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Preferred - Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) F1-F3 certification to work Emergency Vehicle Equipment maintenance.
  • Experience: One to three years’ experience in emergency equipment maintenance at the journeyman level.
  • Certification: EVT F1-F3 Fire Pumps and Accessories is the minimum requirement with ASE requirements that correspond to EVT level 1 preferred.
