Position Overview
The Clinical Supervisor (RN) is responsible for overseeing daily operations, ensuring high-quality patient care, and supporting staff performance within the Med/Surg/Telemetry unit. This role involves both leadership and direct patient care responsibilities and may include patient assignments based on unit needs.
Education RequirementsCompletion of an accredited Registered Nursing (RN) Program (Required)
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
Licensure & CertificationsActive California Registered Nurse (RN) License (Required)
BLS (Basic Life Support) Certification (Required)
ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) Certification (Required)
Basic EKG/Telemetry Interpretation Experience OR completion of Basic EKG class within 6 months of hire
Experience RequirementsMinimum 2 years of recent, department-specific experience (Med/Surg/Tele)
1–2 years of Charge Nurse or Supervisory experience in a similar clinical setting
Key Responsibilities- Leadership & Operational Responsibilities
Assist with unit planning and annual budget assessment
Monitor patient care delivery within budget parameters, including: Staffing levels and scheduling
Overtime and premium labor utilizationCollaborate with leadership to adjust staffing based on census and acuity
Optimize operational efficiency (e.g., patient flow, sitter utilization, discharge facilitation)
Identify and implement cost reduction initiatives
Participate in capital equipment evaluation and procurement
- Patient Safety & Quality
Conduct purposeful rounding every shift to identify risks and improve patient experience
Participate in performance improvement initiatives and Core Measures
Conduct concurrent chart reviews for nursing documentation quality
Investigate and resolve incident reports (HPRRs) in collaboration with leadership
- Communication & Collaboration
Maintain professional communication with: Patients and families
Medical staff and colleaguesAncillary departments
Follow chain of command for issue escalation
Address complaints and grievances using service recovery techniques
Uphold HIPAA compliance and patient confidentiality
- Staff Supervision & Development
Participate in: Staff evaluations and performance reviews
Competency validation and trainingOrientation and continuing education programs
Promote positive work culture and team collaboration
Support staff with clinical and behavioral improvement plans
Attend Clinical Supervisor meetings (80% attendance required)
- Clinical Responsibilities
Act as a clinical resource to ensure high standards of care
Support or perform: Medication administration
IV therapyBlood product administration
Emergency response
Restraint interventions (as per policy)
Perform waived testing per hospital protocols
Maintain clinical competency and certifications

Apply ACLS protocols effectively
Participate in annual competencies and skills validation
