Summer Day Camp Program Leader – Tumbleson Lake

Overview:

The YMCA of Northern Colorado is seeking a Program Leader to guide campers through an extraordinarily memorable summer at Tumbleson Lake, a camp nestled in the heart of the Rocky Mountains near Boulder, Colorado.

Our ideal candidate understands the power of community and teamwork. They are eager to work with other members of our staff team throughout the summer and are passionate about connecting children to the outdoors. The Program Leader will provide leadership, direction, and supervision to their camp.
They will lead a variety of group activities, teach Leave No Trace principles, while also giving individual support, mentorship, and attention to campers. The Program Leader will bus ride with campers and Program Aide to and from Tumbleson Lake from Boulder each day.

Pay Rate: $16.00-$16.50 per hour. This position is non-exempt. Shifts run from 7:00am and 5:30pm M-F. This position is seasonal: June 3rd-Aug 9th. Training for this role begins: June 3rd.

Responsibilities:

 •  Provides daily programming to camp participants at Lake Tumbleson.
 •  Maintain a professional presence for YMCA of Northern Colorado through appropriate staff and camper interactions.
 •  Problem solves, communicates, and documents camper behavioral issues as they arise.
 •  Practices positive guidance and preventative discipline techniques to participants with natural consequences in accordance with YMCA policies, procedures and expectations.
 •  Adheres to program standards and expectations including safety and cleanliness standards.
 •  Models relationship-building skills for campers and staff.
 •  Incorporate the mission, philosophy, and 5 core values of the YMCA of Northern Colorado in all communication with participants and staff-members.
 •  Maintains confidentiality of YMCA issues, incidents, and record.
 •  Maintains an open, friendly, professional relationship with staff, parents, participants, and community members.
 •  Provides leadership and support to Program Aides.

Qualifications:

  1.  Must be a minimum of 18 years old
  2.  Provide documentation of 480 hours of experience working directly with school-age children in such areas as Sunday school, Scouts, sports, or babysitting.
  3.  Knowledge of age-appropriate practices and experience working with children.
  4.  Maturity to make practical decisions under the direct supervision of other staff
  5.  Become certified or supply documentation of current certification in CPR and First Aid (can be completed through the YMCA).
  6.  Bilingual preferred, not required.

Benefits:

All Employees receive a free individual membership and anyone working 10+ hours receive a free family membership, 50-100% off our programs and if eligible, we contribute the equivalent of 10% of your salary to the YMCA Retirement Fund.

Part-Time employees also receive paid sick time of 1 hour for every 30 hours worked.
