Summary:

Conduct concept and detail design engineering activities in accordance with policies, plans, procedures, instructions, and standards under the direction of the Design Engineering Manager and Lead Design Engineer. Provide 3D/2D CAD design services, with high focus on best practices for consideration of DFA/DFM, innovation, and cost effective solutions under the guidance of the workgroup design engineers.
Promote client's quality policy by creating designs on either NX, CREO or CATIA that are cost effective in a timely manner.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Perform engineering work related to configuring, deploying, maintaining and upgrading CAD models.

Sketch, concept, detail design, develop and engineer high quality models using 3D and 2D CAD tools.

Ensure that the design workflow process is strictly followed with Lead Engineer supervision (Master section development, Packaging, Feasibility through detail CAD models/drawings)

Produce CAD models/designs that meet targets for feasibility, performance, costs, quality, safety, legislation and timing.

Understands and implements Quality Policy as applied to this job function.

Provide CAD support based upon all available customer specifications and quality requirements.

Provide CAD support to Lead/Senior Design Engineers as directed by the Design Engineering Manager.

Ensures CMI specific CAD design standards are used and drawing practices.

Actively participates and provide CAD support in design reviews, DFMEA sessions, material review meetings, DFA/DFM meetings, troubleshooting reviews and issue resolution to design/assembly problems when deemed necessary.

Ensure that all work carried out is in compliance with company design, safety, quality, environmental compliance and procedural standards.

Provide input to improve daily processes to ensure that the CAD systems meet Company requirements.

Support Lead Engineers and customer, as necessary to obtain critical design information necessary to complete CAD projects within intended time frame.

Ensure that product design files are updated and modified as required.

Utilize daily processes to ensure that the CAD Engineering systems meet Company requirements.

Determine limitations, assumptions and solutions in the design and development of CAD models.

Assist in implementation of CAD engineering applications.

Support Program Engineers/ Lead Design Engineers to facilitate design activity documents in (i.e. Drawings, ECNs, specifications)

Conducts required support activities based upon all available customer specifications and quality requirements.

Understands and works within the CAD data storage, compliance structures/procedures and retention.

Participates in vocational and Quality System training as directed by Engineering Management.

Maintains awareness of the relevance and importance of activities and how each contributes to achieving quality objectives. Understands the importance of ensuring customer quality standards are met. Responsibilities may include the selection of special characteristics, setting quality objectives and related training, corrective and preventive actions, product design and development, capacity analysis, logistics information, customer scorecards, and customer portals.

Prompt and regular attendance as scheduled.

Works safely and without injury.

Other duties may be assigned at times.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent from an accredited college or university.

6 or more years (6+) experience and excellent working knowledge of concept, design, manufacturing and finishing processes.

Experience within the automotive/commercial trucking industry designing interior and/or exterior injection molded plastic components and assemblies

NX12 design, CREO, and/or CATIA V5 design experience required

Strong working knowledge of plastics design guidelines and manufacturing processes required

Experience using PLM systems (Teamcenter and/or Windchill) to manage CAD data and BOM revision control

Required Qualifications:

Ability to create/revise CAD models in respective CAD system to produce quality plastic component designs and concepts

Use of "Design of Experiments” methodologies in problem solving and process development

Strong competency in at least 1 of the following CAD systems; Catia V5, NX, Creo

Working knowledge of GD&T and 2D print creation to ASME Y14.5 standards

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working with OEM styling studios and developing master section criteria

Knowledge of APQP processes

Experience in DFM/DFA with respect to injection molded plastic assemblies

Experience conducting prototype and development builds
