POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the VP of Finance, the Controller will plan and direct the accounting operations of the company.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Manage all accounting operations including Billing, A/R, A/P, GL and Inventory Accounting and Percent Complete Revenue Recognition
• Lead accounting staff
• Prepare and publish timely monthly financial statements
• Research technical accounting issues for compliance
• Support month-end and year-end close process
• Manage utility contracts
• Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting
• Manage and comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings
• Cost Accounting:
• Analyzing and tracking the costs associated with manufacturing processes, including raw materials, labor, and overhead costs.
• Implementing cost accounting systems to accurately allocate and report manufacturing costs.
• Conducting cost variance analysis to identify areas of cost savings or potential issues.
• Budgeting and Forecasting:
• Developing and managing budgets for manufacturing operations.
• Creating financial forecasts to predict future expenses and revenues related to manufacturing activities.
• Financial Reporting:
• Generating financial reports that provide insights into the financial performance of manufacturing operations.
• Presenting financial data to management for decision-making purposes.
• Inventory Management:
• Monitoring and controlling inventory levels to ensure optimal production and cost efficiency.
• Implementing inventory valuation methods to accurately reflect the value of goods in stock.
• Process Improvement:
• Identifying opportunities for process improvement to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.
• Collaborating with other departments to streamline manufacturing processes.
• Compliance:
• Ensuring compliance with accounting standards, regulations, and company policies.
• Participating in internal and external audits related to manufacturing operations.
• Costing Models:
• Developing and maintaining costing models to estimate the cost of new products or changes in manufacturing processes.
• Decision Support:
• Providing financial information and analysis to support strategic decision-making related to manufacturing.
• ERP System Utilization:
• Utilizing Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems to manage and analyze manufacturing-related financial data.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration:
• Collaborating with other departments such as production, logistics, and procurement to ensure a cohesive and integrated approach to manufacturing financial management.
• Additional controller duties as necessary
• Your leadership is expected to make it easier for employees to make quality products and make it easier for customers to do business with GSM.
• Demonstrates responsibility and accountability for creating a professional, safe, and clean environment evidenced by: being at work on time to perform assigned duties, following the policies of Granite State Manufacturing, always wearing safety glasses in designated areas, maintaining a neat and orderly work area, and following safety practices to prevent errors.
• Demonstrates commitment to teamwork by establishing effective relationships and networks with both managers/directors and workers, and collaborating with them to accomplish shared purposes and goals.
• Abides by GSM Code of Ethics and Business Conduct standards and strictly observes all U.S. and foreign laws and regulations.
Requirements
• Proven working experience as a Controller or Accounting Supervisor
• 5+ years of overall combined accounting and finance experience
• Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures
• Experience with creating financial statements
• Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year end close process
• Excellent administration skills
• Excellent management and supervisory skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Excellent organizational and time management skills
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software
• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business or similar field required
• CPA and/or MBA preferred
