Position Summary
The Registered Respiratory Therapist performs all aspects and modalities of Respiratory Care to Health System patients per department guidelines. Responds to resuscitation situations and other respiratory emergencies when needed. Maintains and completes appropriate documentation in patients' charts and departmental records.
Performs as charge therapist when necessary. Responsible to the Manager of Respiratory Care Services CFV.
Essential duties and Responsibilities
Administers continuous oxygen and continuous bland aerosol therapy per department guidelines.
Performs intermittent therapy and diagnostic procedures per department guidelines.
Access Patient medication from the Medication Security Area to implement Respiratory Care per hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
Initiates and maintains mechanical ventilation and completes appropriate documentation.
Provides airway management, ventilation, and closed chest compression as necessary during emergency resuscitation. Performs intubations after receiving approval.
Assesses patient condition and response to respiratory care so recommendations can be made when necessary and establish protocols are followed.
Initiates and maintains monitoring equipment that are the responsibility of the Respiratory Care Department.
Maintains a thorough knowledge of the hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
Performs as charge therapists in the absence of a supervisor.
Is knowledgeable in the use of equipment and treatment modalities for patients of all ages.
Charges for all services provided inclusive of use of BCX system.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Must have an understanding of medical terminology and current respiratory care modalities. Entrepreneurial DNA (job will include high and low tasks)
Must have the ability to react calmly and maintain composure in stressful situations and when dealing with co-workers, patients, and hospital guests.
Is knowledgeable of the psychosocial and physiological development and spiritual needs of infants, children, adolescents, and all adult age groups (per Erickson's Model) in order to provide appropriate care and intervention, either personally or through staff
Must be able to communicate orally, have manual dexterity to operate and assemble equipment, visual acuity, able to stand or walk for long periods of time, able to position and move patients, and able to push heavy equipment to patients' bedsides.
This position may involve skin, eye, and mucous membranes with blood or other potentially infectious materials.
Education & Experience
Graduate of a COARC approved Respiratory Care Program; Registered by the National Board for Respiratory Care (RRT); licensed by the NCRCB.
Clinical Experience
BCLS certified by the American Heart Association required.
