Engineering designs our next-generation hydrogen electric engines. Working across Hydrogen, Propulsion and Integration divisions, they solve technical problems and help decarbonize aviation by finding solutions for electric propulsion, hydrogen storage, fuel cell technology, power distribution, thermal management and more.

Role

We are seeking a talented and motivated Systems Safety Engineer to join our Electric Propulsion Team at ZeroAvia. As a Systems Safety Engineer, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and reliability of our electric propulsion systems for hydrogen-electric aircraft.
You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of engineers, working on innovative solutions to propel the aviation industry towards a greener and more sustainable future.

Requirements
 •  Safety Analysis: Conduct system safety analyses, including hazard identification, risk assessments, and safety requirements analysis, to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations (e.g., DO-178C, DO-254, DO-160).
 •  System Safety Assessments: Evaluate the safety of electric propulsion system and related components, such as power electronics, motor controllers, electric motor , and sensors, during all stages of development and implementation.
 •  Safety Documentation: Prepare and maintain safety documentation (PSSA, SSA, FTA, CMA) including safety plans, safety case reports, and safety analyses reports, to demonstrate compliance with safety standards and regulatory requirements.
 •  Risk Management: Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies and safety measures to reduce potential hazards associated with electric propulsion systems.
 •  Collaborative Design Review: Participate in design reviews and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure safety requirements are integrated into the design and development process.
 •  Certification Support: Provide support during the certification process by liaising with regulatory authorities and assisting in the preparation of safety-related documentation.
 •  Continuous Improvement: Identify areas for improvement in safety processes and work closely with the engineering teams to implement best practices for safety engineering.
 •  Compliance Monitoring: Monitor compliance with safety-related processes and standards and drive necessary corrective actions when deviations occur.
 •  Testing Support: Collaborate with test engineers to design and develop safety-critical test procedures and analyze test results to verify safety requirements.

Qualifications:

 •  Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related technical field.
 •  Proven experience as a Systems Safety Engineer, preferably in the aviation or aerospace industry, working on safety-critical systems.
 •  Familiarity with safety standards and regulations relevant to aviation systems (e.g., ARP4761, ARP4754A, RTCA DO-178C, DO-254) is highly desirable.
 •  Strong understanding of electric propulsion systems, electric motors, power electronics, and related components.
 •  Experience with safety analysis tools and techniques, such as FMEA, FTA, and HAZOP.
 •  Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team, collaborate with various stakeholders, and communicate safety concepts clearly.
 •  Detail-oriented with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
 •  Knowledge of hydrogen fuel cell technology and hydrogen safety is a plus.

Benefits

The wage scale or salary range for this position is between $100,000 - $150,000. In addition to the foregoing base compensation, additional compensation and benefits are available to employees and eligible family members (as applicable) including the following:

 •  Bonus: Annual discretionary bonuses.
 •  Equity: Ability to exercise company stock options
 •  Retirement: Eligible to participate in the company's 401(k) Plan, with up to a 4% matching
 •  Health Insurance: Employer covers up to 80% of the employee's monthly premiums on medical, dental, and vision.
 •  Life Insurance: Basic Life/AD&D of up to $50,000 and the option to add on Supplemental Coverage.
 •  Short-Term Disability: Up to 60% of your earnings for up to a period of 24 weeks.
 •  Long-Term Disability: If your disability extends beyond 180 days, LTD Coverage for up to 60% of your earnings.
 •  Paid Time Off: Eligible employees may accrue up to 120 hours per year (15 days) and may borrow up to 40 hours (5 days).
 •  Sick Time: Eligible employees may accrue up to 40 hours, per year (5 days)
 •  Paid Holidays: 12 observed holidays, per calendar year.
 •  The Fly Club: up to $2,000 of reimbursement towards flying lessons to all full-time staff
