Job Description

To provide nursing interventions and medication administration consistent with the established systematic problem-solving approach for the delivery of comprehensive nursing care, which are compliant with the regulatory standards in a juvenile correctional setting.

Facility Overview:

Brentwood Residential Center (BRC) is in the Long Island region of New York State, east of New York City. Youth served at BRC are female, juvenile offenders. Depending upon the sentence, youth may remain in OCFS custody until the age of 21. BRC is accredited by the American Correctional Association and has a current population of approximately 20 youth.

Job duties:

Job duties include, but may not be limited to: maintaining general medical inventory (including controlled substances); conducting medication administration; reviewing the overall health conditions of youth (i.e. preparing, reviewing and evaluating nursing intervention plans); ensuring that interventions are consistent with comprehensive treatment plans; participating in staff trainings; preparing required clinical and administrative reports; maintain infection control standards; and, serve as a member of the facility's medical treatment team.

Qualifications: Licensed and registered to practice nursing in New York State.

Hours: Fri-Tues 12p-8p / PASS: Wed-Thurs

Background Investigation Requirements:

All prospective employees will be investigated through a Criminal Background Check (CBC), which includes State and federal Criminal History Record Checks. Prospective employees will be fingerprinted in order to obtain a record of their criminal history information.

All prospective employees will be screened against the Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR).

Prospective appointees will be checked against the Staff Exclusion List (SEL) maintained by the Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs. All background requirement fees will be paid by the New York State Office of Children and Family Services (NYS OCFS), therefore there will be no background check reimbursement for this position.
Once NYS OCFS is made aware of the awarded vendors selected candidate, the vendor will be provided the necessary forms for the SCR and SEL checks. The vendors selected candidate will then be contacted directly by NYS OCFS to schedule fingerprinting.
After all results have been reviewed, the vendor will be provided with a start date for the selected candidate.
