Lynker Corporation is seeking to hire a full-time Principal Water Resources Scientist / Engineer to support our growing water resources consulting team based in California. We are focused on supporting our expanding water resources and conjunctive use modeling, natural hazard risk assessment, and climate change impact analysis practice area in California and the Western US.
The preferred candidate will have strong ties to the state's water resources community and will be capable of winning new projects to expand our consulting services. The position is focused on business development and providing technical scientific and engineering services (i.e. a "seller-doer ). The ideal Water Resources Scientist/Engineer will identify clients and capture new project opportunities while also leading technical project work including, scientific and engineering analyses, water resources and environmental modeling services, and project management.
The position will involve travel to meetings, conferences, and other events as needed to fulfill the objectives of the position.
The successful Principal Water Resources Scientist/Engineer will support business development and technical services offerings in our water resources practice:
Business Development:
Identify and respond to proposals.
Ability to win work and deliver successful project outcomes to clients.
Manage water resources projects.
Assess client needs and formulate appropriate solutions
Technical Capabilities and Experience:
Technical capabilities focused on water resources modeling, hydrogeologic modeling, water quality modeling, hazard identification and analysis, vulnerability, and risk assessment, climate change science, or other related fields. The successful applicant will bring to the position strengths in one or preferably more of the following areas:
Experience applying developing and applying hydrologic, hydraulic, water systems operations and optimization, and other natural resources models
Experience successfully completing water resources, conjunctive water planning, natural hazard risk assessment, and climate change impact studies in California for a diverse range of clients, from public to tribal to private to NGO
Experience in working with clients to define project objectives, metrics, and scopes
Experience in executing a range of water resource projects, from local site assessments to basin-scale surface water groundwater conjunctive use plans and water adjudication "physical solutions, groundwater sustainability plans, risk assessments, water resources planning services, and/or other related technical service offerings
Experience in managing projects (budgets/schedules, resources, quality...) to deliver client satisfaction
Managing and directing junior staff in project execution
Knowledge of the state of the theoretical and applied science / keeping abreast of developments in the field
Reach across Lynker team of surface hydrologists, hydrogeologists, hydrologic modelers, and data scientists to support development and application of cutting-edge risk characterization and risk management science in the coming decades of the 21st century
The Principal Water Resources Scientist/Engineer qualified for this role will meet most or all of the following Qualifications:
15+ years of professional post-degree experience in water resources or related physical science.
Master's degree or higher in earth science or engineering discipline.
Five or more years of experience working on projects related to California water resources challenges, with a strong network of professional and scientific contacts across the community
Demonstrated business development capability and experience managing projects in a technical discipline.
Water resources or natural resources modeling expertise.
Knowledge of water resources issues in California and the Western US.
Ability to develop own modeling tools and algorithms, to write robust code in Python, Java, Fortran, and/or R or other applied language
Ability to work in and manage a project team
Outstanding analytical and practical problem-solving skills
Strong communication skills and a proven track record of meeting client needs
In addition to these minimum requirements, the Ideal candidate for this Principal Water Resources Scientist/Engineer position will meet the following Preferred Qualifications:
20+ years of experience.
Doctorate degree in earth science or engineering discipline.
Experience networking, marketing, and consulting with clients in the water resources or natural resources industry.
A proven track record of winning water resources or natural resources projects.
Position Location
California Central - South Coast
Up to 80% remote but living within, and with strong knowledge of water resources issues in, the market area.
Even after establishing a physical office location, Lynker will offer a flexible work-from-home schedule.
