Job Description

MIT Lincoln Laboratory, located in Lexington, Massachusetts, researches and develops a broad array of advanced technologies to meet critical national security needs. The Financial Strategy and Transformation (FS and T) team within the Financial Services Department (FD) is actively seeking candidates for a Financial Data Governance Summer Office Assistant position beginning in mid:May through mid:August 2024.
We are looking for students or recent graduates who are passionate about helping others and building something that matters.

The selected individual for this position will have the opportunity to work with multiple areas in the Finance department, learn about the Laboratory's Financial Data Governance Program, liaise with various IT personnel as well as interface with various business functions.

Specifically, the role will focus on the following efforts but can be adjusted based on department priorities and the selected candidate's input/skillset:

(1) Collection, validation and upload of financial terms and definitions

(2) Financial data and analytics metadata collection

(3) Data governance/financial process documentation

(4) Optimize the Finance Department's Confluence communication channel to better support project tracking, promote the overall strategy, and provide project and process governance details

This is a role that bridges both business and technology. Suitable for technologists with an interest in optimizing processes, or business majors with an interest in data/technology.

Responsibilities

 •  Work with subject matter experts (SMEs) to review financial terms and definitions for inclusion in the online glossary used by the Laboratory.
 •  Identify any process gaps in data mapping, discovery, classification assignments to capture and rectify issues.
 •  Build and refine financial data cataloging, mapping and classification procedures.
 •  Conduct data/process analysis and best practice research; visualize/present recommendations for executive management.
 •  Assist in the creation and maintenance of metrics and dashboards to characterize and measure the value and effectiveness of Data Governance.
 •  Partner with various resources to identify and deliver improvements to the Financial Service Department's Confluence communication channel to help manage project deliverables, support timely issue identification and resolution, promote strategic objectives and build a repository for reference materials.
 •  Support other ad:hoc data requests as needed.
 •  Other duties as assigned.

Requirements
 •  Currently enrolled in a college degree program with coursework in finance, data analytics, data management/governance, and process documentation.
 •  Possess a strong work ethic, curiosity, positive attitude and drive; actively seek out answers to problems; use critical thinking to solve problems/resolve issues.
 •  Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (primarily Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) as well as Access, SharePoint, Teams and Visio and/or BusinessOptix.
 •  Experience using SAP and Atlassian Confluence preferred.
 •  Interest in broader enterprise software and analytics tools (e.g., ServiceNow, PowerBI, etc.).
 •  Able to take initiative and work independently as well as work with a team.
 •  Must be an organized, detail:oriented person who is skilled at keeping track of multiple deliverables within a dynamic work environment.
 •  Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
 •  Ability to analyze, discuss results/reports to supervisor.
 •  Possess an open:learning mindset.
