OUR CLINICAL TEAM WORK IN THE HOMES OF FAMILIES AND IN THE COMMUNITY; PLUS, IN A OFFICE SITE

Catholic Community Services, Family Behavioral Health is looking for a Behavioral Health Specialist to join our team of innovators who explore and develop new approaches and implement novel strategies. Our teams provide individualized, creative and flexible services, infused with evidence-based and evidence-informed strategies.
This position will be based out of the FBH Portland office, at times may work from home with scheduling flexibility to provide services to youth and families in the community and in their homes, as needed.

With sites located in throughout Western Washington and Portland Oregon, we offer comprehensive intensive, Wrap-around mental health services to a diverse population for youth and families. We employ almost 600 energetic and compassionate employees.

WHAT WE OFFER:

 •  Excellent starting range of: $23.62- $25.39 per hour
 •  Bi-lingual fluency skills in Spanish and English, or other languages, as needed: $100 -200 per pay period (2 times per month) for service provision in support the families we serve. Tiered language stipend based on language proficiency and youth and family needs.

Training and Supervision:

 •  Daily and weekly supervision and support, as needed

The Behavioral Health Specialist provides one-on-one support to high-risk children and youth in their homes and community. This includes the provision of supervision for safety, assistance in accessing and participating in community activities, and mentoring and coaching positive social skills.
The BHS’ work will follow a plan of care for each child and family under the direction of a Therapist. Hours are scheduled in a flexible manner based on program, agency and family need, no minimum hours guaranteed as hours, vary based on need.
This position will be based out of the FBH Portland office. This position requires scheduling flexibility to meet the needs of youth and families served. The services we offer will be provided in community-based settings and in family homes. We value learning and offer alternatives and we stand strong to help child-serving systems understand our alternative paradigm while strengthening partnerships.

Responsibilities:

JOB SUMMARY:

 •  Receive assignment and solicit feedback from referring co-worker about planned activities.
 •  Introduce themselves and the activity plans for the day to the family.
 •  Participate in individual service and support plan development upon request.
 •  Adapt and modify activity to fit the immediate situation and/or family feedback.
 •  Provide structure and support within the agreed upon activity.
 •  Model and teach appropriate behavior and skills.
 •  Provide direct supervision and redirection of children.
 •  Connect and introduce youth/family to community resources in their own community.
 •  Identify and access positive relationship for the child and family.
 •  Identify situations that require other CCS supports to assure prompt, effective and appropriate response.
 •  De-escalate and manage situations until other responders can arrive.
 •  Seek assistance and report incidents to the right people at the right time.
 •  Focus on successes experienced during activity or time with family just completed.
 •  Communicate and summarize to the family and referring co-workers about completed activities and observations.
 •  Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

WHAT WE ARE SEEKING IN A CANDIDATE:

 •  Age 21 or older per DHS requirements.
 •  Qualified Mental Health Associate (OAR--# 309-032-1110 (71).
 •  Requirements for QMHA are defined under the current OAR as either A or B:
 •  Experience: A combination of three years’ experience, work, education or training revolving around child mental health, child development and/or social skill development.
 •  Education: A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in the behavioral sciences field AND communicate effectively, understand mental health assessment, treatment and service terminology and to apply the concepts, provide psychology skills development, and implement interventions as assigned on an individual plan of care.
 •  Demonstrate effective verbal and written communication.
 •  Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team.
 •  Applicant must successfully pass required background clearances prior to an offer of employment.
 •  Must have reliable transportation, valid driver’s license and automobile insurance.
 •  Availability to work flexible hours (evenings, nights, weekends).
 •  Must provide acceptable driving abstract per CCS driving policy.
 •  Demonstrates the necessary attitudes, knowledge and skills to deliver culturally competent services and work effectively in multi-cultural situations.
 •  Support and uphold the mission, beliefs and values of Catholic Community Services and Catholic Housing Services.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 •  Associates or Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences or related field.
 •  Experience in a non-profit or a social service agency working with youth and families who need assistance.
 •  Knowledge of sexually/physically aggressive youth and their needs.
 •  Knowledge of family systems and child development.
