Pipeline-Travel Technician
Summary: Perform dissection, gross description, selection and submission of tissue for microscopic examination and special studies following departmental guidelines
Follow the laboratory's procedure for specimen handling and processing
Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies and procedures
Assist other areas rotations within the department with specified assignments in a timely manner after the assigned job has been completed
Ensure a professional environment is maintained
Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and work to correct or report the problem
Maintain high ethical standards and integrity in performing the assigned duties
Knowledge of hazardous waste management
Knowledge of personal protection measures and blood borne pathogens
Responsibilities:
Perform technical tasks that involve in the accurate gross description and dissection of surgical specimens
Prepare sections of human tissue for pathologist diagnostic study
Diagram pertinent gross specimens as necessary
Operate a cassette labeler, grossing of human biopsy specimens, tissue processor operation, embedding of tissue specimens, operation of automated stainer and cover-slippers
Perform equipment maintenance as needed
Record equipment log data
Print and collate case worksheets, filing slides, jars, and paperwork, organizing waste and inventory
Distribute cases to pathologists for diagnosis
Candidate may be asked to do other departmental tasks such as accessioning and scanning materials
Requirements
B.S./B.A. Degree in Biology, Chemistry or related science as required by CLIA. Candidate will need to provide official transcripts to be credentialed through the LabCorp National Office of Quality before being hired
