Fives Group is seeking a CNC Machinist in the Columbus area. This role will be on first shift and has the option to work four 10 hour shifts with optional OT.

Summary:

This person performs a wide range of duties including complex set ups, adjustment and operation of CNC and/or manual Machine Tools. This is primarily both a lathe and milling environment. This person should have some programming experience, ideally with conversational, fanuc or Siemens controls.
Other experience will be considered. This is a custom machine shop, not just production runs.

Job Responsibilities:

Set up, adjust, and operate CNC machining centers to perform a complex series of machining operations on a custom work load.

Work to very close and exacting tolerances.

Work requires a high degree of skill, a broad knowledge of machining techniques practices.

Setups require familiarity with and understanding or program controls (Siemens 840D) Work from program operational data and setup instructions defining and coding tools, fixtures and material clamping methods, machine calibrations and console settings.

Install programs into the machines and make edits as necessary

Work from complicated drawings, specifications, programming setup instructions and data.

Use micrometers, scale, protractor, bore gages, Vernier’s, surface gauges, indicators, etc., to make setups and check work.

Must be able to work without supervision.

Qualifications:

  3.  5 years of machining experience in a job shop or custom machining environment. Associate's Degree or technical school training is preferred.

Skills:

Must possess basic shop math skills (i.e. addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals, charts, tables)

Ability to read blueprints

Ability to setup tooling

Ability to learn how to read, write & edit part programs (G & M-codes)

Ability to edit work & tooling offsets

Ability to work with close tolerances (.0002”)

Ability to use inspection equipment (i.e. tape measure, rule, gauge blocks, OD & ID micrometers, depth micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, bore gauges)

Ability to setup own part fixturing

Knowledge of cutting feeds & speeds

Knowledge of probing

Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T)

Knowledge of cutting inserts
