Senior Platform Architect

O Fallon (MO) | www.resume-library.com |
Title: Senior Platform Architect (we do not need an Architect – we can take a Middleware Engineer or Middleware Admin)
Location: O'Fallon MO - local preferred as always but open to relocation form Day 1
Duration: 2 years

Onsite in St Louis (No Remote)- 3 Days Per Week. To start we might ask for more due to training and fast-tracking. Usually Tues, Wed, Thurs. Usually Mon & Fri can be more flexible. For the first few weeks will probably be 4 or 5 days onsite. If can achieve what they need in 3 days, won't have them come in more days than that.

Relocations- Open to them. They would need to be onsite from the start.

Interviews- can't show designs because they are highly confidential. 2-3 round

Infrastructure Design and Engineering

Work with Engineers that build the design- this is more of a design role not a build role

We work with some automations as well

Looking for Middleware experience

Experienced in IT

Show ability to learn and good at asking questions

Track record of high quality work and that take pride in what they're doing when they're delivering

We have seen a lot of success from Middleware candidates

Would you take a Middleware Engineer or Admin side? Yes, absolutely. Middleware is key. Lot of times the Administrators focus on the What and we take this to the next level with the Why. So if they have it- all those middleware components (Manager has Middleware background) they will flourish more in the role, but that is not to say anyone else wont be successful in the role if they have a proven track record and are willing to learn

They will be in cross-functional conversations with the Product and Development teams, as well as working with Internal Leads and Principal Architects. There is a TPM that sets up the Feature. One to schedule meetings and then we are on together in the meetings for the particular project.
They are doing the actual hands-on design work. It mainly is a next step past engineering. If they are a BizOps or DevOps or support- they have looked at thousands of designs and a lot of them know more than they might say on their resume so I am happy to talk to someone for 30 minutes to see if they are a fit for our team if you are unsure if they are or not

We don't work with the database, we work with the database team. We decide which database to work with but that is generally it. A DBA could do this but Middleware Engineer or DevOps typically do the best. There is no database administration or architecture (we have a team that does that separately).
Cloud is not the primary objective of what we do, but if you understand the Cloud- it can be easily transferred into similar terminology for the rest of it

It is not a hard role to learn. It is tough to come in hitting the ground running. So if they want to learn and expand their horizons on something they already have a foundation in, it is a great role to be in and we tend to train folks very quickly

If it does help, this role does not typically require support of off-hours. If we do, we adjust it to ensure it fits within normal work hours. Not working nights, not needing to be on-call. We ensure there is a balance and switch schedules if this ever does come up to ensure it will be within normal schedule and it is very rare that that does happen if it does

This person should come in at a Senior level. It is right below Lead. Understand the terms and concepts from a high-level. You are able to stay with the conversation during training exercises or things like that. Things that are well -known around the industry or within the network etc.
are expected to be known where the Manager can then build off of that. If they don't have that, the foundation cannot be built for this role and won't benefit Client

The build team that they are handing these designs off to are a mixture of Middleware Engineers (Load Balancers, Network Policies) and BizOps from Product Team to inform about the design needed in their Pipeline and then also the DBA's have that information as well.
The Architect will be somewhat of an orchestrator. They understand the designs and their part on what is needed and they will elaborate on their questions to help them understand what exactly is needed and where to find it but it is very much a design and then they go on and do their thing with very little involvement on the architectural side outside of that.
It is a fun role though. So if you have candidates that are passionate about technology- you get to work with everyone and know a little bit about what everyone does. Or if you have someone with industry experience and want to find their sweet spot in technology this is good for them- it can help them figure out where they want to be in their career

Will you consider just a Senior Engineer or do they need to have some Architecture experience as well? Yes- Middleware Engineer, yes. Most Senior Engineers know a lot about architecture because of the frequency at which they looked at tabs and served as a cover for an Architect on calls.
The team can teach or train them. A lot of development has their own environments and infrastructure is an afterthought so don't think a Developer is a fit here
