Description:
Inspects spaces and tanks in industrial or other settings to ensure compliance with occupational safety and health regulations.
Skills required:
Coordinate Marine Chemist inspections for vessels undergoing repair. Inspect and test atmosphere of enclosed and confined spaces using gas detection tubes and gas detection meters as required by OSHA where a Marine Chemist is not required. Ensure that conditions annotated on the Marine Chemist Certificate are maintained as required.
Maintain the daily tank matrix for each vessel under repair. Post and update the Competent Persons Record of Tests and Inspections with the conditions for entry and/or hot work. Document conditions on the Daily Competent Person Report. Review hot work requests, inspect hot work areas and approve/deny hot work as requested.
Post daily Competent Person Report and Marine Chemist Certificate (if applicable) on the Competent Person Board. Perform daily calibration checks of test equipment. Perform safety compliance inspections and document findings.
Skills Preferred:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Must be able to tour all vessels, piers, docks, and work sites. The employee should test in the acceptable range for vision, hearing, and respiratory functions
Expereince required:
1 to 3 months related experience preferred (and/or training)
Expereince Preferred:
Able to acquire and maintain a Defense Biometric Identification System Card (DBIDS).
Education:
Required education: High School/GED and 1 to 3 months related experience preferred (and/or training) Certified NFPA competent person Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Work, Excel and PowerPoint programs Valid Drivers License
