Virtus Healthcare Staffing Seeks Director of Risk Management for Level I Trauma Center

Virtus Healthcare Staffing is partnering with a Level I trauma center to find a qualified and experienced Director of Risk Management. This is an exceptional opportunity for a leader in patient safety to oversee all aspects of risk management within a fast-paced and dynamic healthcare environment.

Responsibilities:

Lead and manage a comprehensive risk management program, focusing on patient safety, regulatory compliance, and risk mitigation.

Oversee the investigation and analysis of adverse events, ensuring timely follow-up and corrective action.

Provide expert advice, consultation, and support to hospital and professional staff on clinical, risk, and ethical issues.

Respond to sentinel events and other serious occurrences, guiding leadership and staff.

Manage 24/7 on-call access for staff seeking immediate consultation and mitigation strategies during adverse events.

Actively participate in daily safety huddles and promote a strong culture of safety throughout the organization.

Direct investigations related to targeted incidents and analyze data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.

Proactively assess areas of organizational risk and implement strategies and policies to enhance patient and staff safety.

Oversee an electronic database for tracking patient safety events and report findings to relevant stakeholders.

Design and deliver educational programs on patient safety and risk management for all levels of staff.

Collaborate with department leadership to develop risk management programs specific to their areas.

Maintain and update policies and procedures to ensure compliance with all regulatory and accreditation requirements.

Lead the review of serious occurrences and conduct collaborative case reviews or failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA) as needed.

Prepare comprehensive reports on serious incidents, claims, and risk-related issues for executive and medical staff leadership.

Develop risk management reports for boards of directors, senior management, and external agencies.

Coordinate claims investigation, medical record requests, and legal defense processes.

Act as a liaison to external regulatory agencies for adverse event reporting and surveys.

Stay up-to-date on new and revised healthcare regulations, laws, and best practices.

Track and trend Serious Reportable Events (SRE) and Adverse Events.

Assist with BORM reporting requirements and maintain compliance.

Update the Patient Care Assessment Committee Plan annually.

Respond to agency requests and develop corrective action plans if necessary.

Oversee onsite regulatory reviews and provide written summaries of events.

Qualifications:

Master's degree in a healthcare-related field or Juris Doctor (JD) required.

Certified in Healthcare Risk Management (CPHRM) required within 6 months of hire. Certified Patient Safety Professional (CPPS) preferred, Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) optional.

At least 5 years of direct clinical care experience and 5 or more years of progressive leadership experience in risk management.

Strong organizational skills, persistence, creativity, and excellent communication, interpersonal, and systems thinking skills.
