ABOUT STEP

The Skills, Transitions, Exploration and Progress (STEP) Program is a partnership between Kaiser Permanente and Seneca Family of Agencies. STEP provides intensive, short-term stabilization services to youth, ages 12-17, for an average of 15 days.
Our goal is to reintegrate our youth into schools and the community with lower levels of outpatient mental health treatment.

YOUR ROLE

The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for implementing and evaluating the nursing care delivered within the program, and for utilizing the nursing process to provide assessment, treatment planning, and evaluation of resident care within designated clinical areas.
Clinicians provide family therapy, facilitate group therapy, provide clinical consultation, conduct risk assessments, and connect youth with long-term treatment resources through Kaiser Permanente and community partners.

Responsibilities:

 •  Evaluate illness or injuries.
 •  Monitor Physician orders for medication or treatment, and prescriptions filled at outside pharmacies.
 •  Maintain working relationships with Pediatricians, Specialists, Psychiatrists, Therapists, and hospitals who provide care to clients.
 •  Arrange appointments or receive orders for treatments when nursing expertise is required to facilitate the process.
 •  Ongoing training with staff on medications and handling medications.
 •  Provide other health-related education to staff and clients.
 •  Document all nursing interventions, including maintaining medication assistance records.
 •  Collect and analyze assessment data to identify treatment problems and formulate individualized outcomes and plans. Implement and evaluate nursing interventions.
 •  Review all medical incident reports for shifts.
 •  Meet regularly with the Program Director and Psychiatrists as requested.
 •  Collaborate with Psychiatrist to ensure quality of medication administration, adequate consents, medical treatment and follow-up.
 •  Collaborate with Clinical Manager to ensure health and safety, infection control, resource utilization, and clinical and rehabilitative standards of care.
 •  Provide on-call support for nursing questions, as needed.
 •  Utilize crisis communication and de-escalation techniques as per Seneca's crisis response training. This may include intervening with the clients' behavioral program through physical management of the clients, if applicable. Training in additional crisis intervention modalities may be required.

Qualifications:

 •  Bachelors of Science in Nursing
 •  Valid California Registered Nurse License
 •  CPR – BLS
 •  Must be willing to travel to the San Jose Location and at least 2 other STEP locations (Concord,Oakland, Petaluma, Fairfield)
 •  Good communication, organization and leadership skills
 •  Any other State/Federal licensing or certification requirements
 •  Valid California driver's license and insurability with Seneca's automobile policy
 •  Proof of COVID-19 vaccinationan HR-approved medical/religious exemption

Schedule:

 •  Per Diem:
 •  Mon-Fri 8am-4 pm (Petaluma location 8:30am-4:30pm)
 •  Usually 8 hour shift
 •  Number of shifts will vary

Benefits:

 •  Starting $56.65 - $59.15 per hour
 •  $2000 sign on bonus
 •  Additional compensation provided upon passing bilingual language proficiency exam
