Job Summary:

Summer Resident Assistant (SRAs) is a temporary part-time, non-benefited, position open to current LCCC students enrolled in at least one credit hour for the current summer session or was enrolled in the prior spring or fall semesters. This position is available to qualified LCCC students and requires students to live on campus while fulfilling this role.
This position helps assist summer students and summer guests of the Residence Hall as well as prepare for their arrival. During the Summer Term, the Residence Hall houses two categories of occupants. The first is credit students taking classes at LCCC.
To these residents we offer similar- services as during the academic year. The second category includes conference guests that rotate in and out of the building throughout the summer. Conference guests participate in events and activities sponsored by Facilities and Events Office and to them we offer services similar to that of hotel lodging.
There are six positions available during the summer.

SRA’s work closely with and are under the direct supervision of the Director for Residential Living, the Assistant Director and the Administrative Assistant. The Residence Hall is within the student life department of the college and is under the administration of the Dean of Students, and abides by the policies set forth by the College.

During Fall and Spring semesters Resident Assistants (RAs) are not paid or compensated for these roles, instead, in exchange for the RA duties RAs receive room and board discounts as determined by the Student Life Department. During the summer LCCC’s Residential Living & Learning focus changes primarily to customer service for short term guests, due to this change in focus LCCC has elected to compensate some of the duties performed by SRAs while remaining duties are performed in exchange for room discount for the summer, as detailed below.

Other tasks may be assigned based on contemporary institutional need.

Start Date: May/2024.
Compensation: $11.29/hr. Commensurate with Experience.

Responsibilities:

Essential Functions: – this position does not have an employee status with LCCC and is not eligible for compensatory or overtime pay provisions of the FLSA. This listing of essential duties is not all-inclusive, but representative; other duties may be assigned).

SUMMER NON-COMPENSATION DUTIES – the following duties are to be performed in exchange for discounted room rate as determined by the Department of Student Life.

NON – COMPENSATION SUMMER OPERATIONAL DUTIES
 •  As assigned, serve in an on-call status responding to guest concerns, needs, and overall operational needs for the resident halls
 •  Assist guest during after-hours with emergency needs via on-call phone i.e., maintenance and plumbing issues, safety concerns, noise complaints etc. (On-call phone is to be transferred from one summer assistant to for 24 hour and 7 day a week coverage)
 •  Contribute to a rotating duty schedule with fellow SRAs, including weekday and weekend duty nights
 •  Perform on-call (security) rounds
 •  As required elevate concerns and issues to the Director or Assistant Director of Residential Living
 •  Sort, distribute and forward mail
 •  Perform after hours check-in and check-outs of summer guests
 •  Notify necessary campus department of any emergencies (i.e. Campus Safety, Maintenance, DRLL, etc.)

SERVING AS A RESOURCE/REFERRAL AGENT
 •  Assist residents and guests by providing information about the Residence Hall, LCCC and the Cheyenne community
 •  Assist guests with finding information regarding the campus and community of Cheyenne
 •  Update community bulletin boards as directed

SUMMER COMPENSATION DUTIES – the following duties are to be performed for hourly compensation through the College’s payroll mechanisms.

SUMMER OPERATIONAL DUTIES
 •  Work the front desk and help assist the Administrative Assistant with desk duties as assigned (10-12 hours per week)
 •  Help set up keys and proximity devices for summer guests, inventory key cards when returned
 •  Make signage for all the different groups and help make guests feel comfortable
 •  Cleaning includes, vacuuming, sweeping, mopping floors, emptying trash cans/replacing trash bags, wipe down all counter tops, clean sinks, shower and bath area, and toilets
 •  Assist with conference guest experiences throughout the summer
 •  Work to establish a community where students can study and sleep. Refer noise concerns appropriately as they occur and as you become aware of them
 •  Other duties as assigned

SETUP/CLEANING OF SUITE DUTIES
 •  General setup and cleaning responsibilities in the Residence Hall suites
 •  Setup each suite according to Conference and Events schedule
 •  Setup duties include: supply rooms with blankets, pillows, linens, towels, soaps and trash cans, toilet paper and make sure the room is clean and ready to be occupied
 •  After conferences perform guest checkout and clean all required suites
 •  Cleaning duties include: Vacuum carpets and floors, trash cans - empty, clean as needed and replace bags, wipe down counter in the kitchenette area and the bathroom, scrub tub, sinks, and toilet, restock (linens, soap, etc.) as necessary, wash dry and fold all linens used

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

 •  Reside in the room provided
 •  Ability to role model a standard of personal conduct commensurate with job responsibilities
 •  Ability to by all College and Residence Life policies, as well as all local, state and federal laws
 •  Prioritize the position as your principal out-of-class activity; any competing employment or activities are at the discretion of the Director of Residential Living (outside employment requires pre-approval and is limited to 10 hours/week).

 •  Sign a housing lease with Residential Living and pay the deposit
 •  Ability to effectively and professionally execute the essential functions of this position with proven capabilities in establishing appropriate professional rapport, communicating with courtesy and tact, accurately determine others needs, collecting necessary information, and follow-through when requested
 •  Ability to read and interpret instructions in oral, written, or diagrammatical form (e.g., a flow chart of a process). Ability to read, interpret and consider possible applications of business literature and legal documents
 •  Skills and abilities to perform as an organized, self-starter, and able to handle expeditiously, accurately, and confidentially the rapid receipt of communications from all sources—written, email, voice mail, one-on-one with attention to detail; able to act on own initiative while exercising reasonable judgment
 •  Excellent customer service skills; ability to communicate clearly with a variety of people, in one-to-one and small group settings – either face-to-face, by telephone, or by other electronic means – ability to communicate in an informative manner, effectively listen, and be able to handle escalating situations with concern and confidence
 •  Ability to support time-based requests; able to function effectively in a multi-tasking, fast-paced environment with deadlines, frequent interruptions, and some interpersonal pressure
 •  Ability to respond to common inquiries from college faculty and staff, regulatory agencies, vendors, regional business community, and others as may be necessary
 •  Knowledge of basic office equipment including (but not limited to) personal computer and associated peripherals, fax machine, multi-line telephone, voice recorders, and other electronic devices
 •  Demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.

Physical/Mental Demands:

To successfully perform the essential functions of this position a candidate must:

 •  be able to maintain appropriate composure and necessary confidentiality with regard to both past and current employee, student, and donor data; documents; issues; etc., and respect privacy needs of employees, students, donors
 •  The ability to comply with highly inflexible deadlines is required; there will be multiple occurrences of sudden, urgent task completion required
 •  Use of chemical cleaners for cleaning bathrooms, floors, and overall resident rooms; appropriate safety precautions and safety equipment must be utilized at all times
 •  Moving of furniture, i.e. beds, mattresses, dressers, tables, and chairs; appropriate lift techniques and safety practices must be utilized at all times
 •  A variable work schedule will be required including long workdays, evenings, and weekends as needed
 •  There may be occurrences of interacting with employees and/or students, past employees and/or students, members of the general public, and others who express opinions, may exhibit strong emotions, which will require the ability to interact professionally, diplomatically, and appropriately in such situations
 •  Frequently be required to move around the assigned work areas as well as within hallways, meeting rooms, and other parts of the campus facilities
 •  There may be multiple/daily instances of prolonged sitting, standing, stooping, kneeling, climbing stairs, and personal computer use, which would include keyboard and/or mouse usage as well as viewing a computer monitor
 •  Frequently lift and/or move up to 30 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds to perform essential position functions. For lifts exceeding 50 pounds, a team lift technique is required.
 •  Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.
 •  The overall work environment requires the mental ability to shift focal point quickly due to interruptions; must be able to mentally track multiple projects and tasking as well
 •  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate; however, there may be unexpected instances of somewhat loud sounds.

Education and Experience Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

 •  Have a Current and maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 and minimum semester GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale throughout the appointment as a Resident Assistant
 •  Be enrolled in one credit for the Summer semester, previously enrolled in the prior Spring or Fall semesters or enrolled in the upcoming semester
 •  Complete and be expected to pass a criminal background history check
 •  Have a positive financial standing (defined as not being delinquent or in default with the Business Office), academic (See GPA requirements), and student conduct status (defined as not being on College Disciplinary Probation) with Laramie County Community College
 •  Must reside in an on-campus residence hall room. Nights away must be approved by the Director of Residential Living
 •  Dates where students cannot take time away include May 18^th-May 22^nd, June 7^th and July 12^th - August 1^st.

Preferred Qualifications:

 •  One year of prior leadership experience (e.g. organizations, clubs, employment supervision, etc.)
 •  Have lived one semester in on-campus housing (preferred, not required).
