The Medical Lab Scientist performs a variety of diagnostic testing in Hematology, Chemistry, Microbiology and Blood Bank following established practices and standards. The Medical Lab Scientist will perform laboratory tests and procedures within scope of education, credentialing and experience for this role, and will maintain annual competencies in Blood Bank, Chemistry, Hematology, and Microbiology.
This individual will be able to function independently in all these areas. Demonstrates knowledge and skills to ensure quality results

Essential Functions:

 •  Receives assignments according to established departmental procedures and plans, organizes and prioritizes work to accomplish daily objectives.
 •  Performs testing procedures and related work according to established protocols and standards in order to report results to the requesting party.
 •  Operates equipment and works with highly technical instrumentation according to established procedures and protocols in order to assure the accuracy of test results.
 •  Performs equipment maintenance and repair according to operator’s manuals in order to facilitate testing procedures and avoid downtime.
 •  Assays appropriate controls, standards, and other quality control material according to protocol in order to maintain the testing environment.
 •  Covers on-call time or other shifts in times of emergencies or shortages in order to maintain laboratory minimum staffing levels
 •  Performs venipunctures according to established protocols and procedures as to provide the best possible specimen for analysis.
 •  Instructs clinical students and new employees as needed to maintain adequate proficiency.
 •  Covers on-call time or other shifts in times of emergencies/shortages in order to maintain laboratory minimum staffing levels.
 •  Performs other duties as assigned in order to assure that departmental objectives are fulfilled.

Schedule: Five shifts per biweekly pay period, including every other weekend rotation. Start times vary between 6:30 am and 7:00am

Qualifications:

Education and Experience: Associate's Degree Clinical Laboratory Sciences or equivalent, required

Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology or equivalent, preferred.

Licenses and Certifications:
Credentialed by an agency approved by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA), i.e. ASCP, HEW, HCA, AMT, Upon hire, preferred
