Senior Financial Analyst, Acquisitions

Scout Clean Energy | Boulder | Full-time | apply.workable.com |
As a Senior Financial Analyst within Scout’s M&A Group, you will be responsible for supporting the origination, evaluation, negotiation, and closing of acquisitions of utility-scale wind, solar, and storage projects to supplement Scout’s ambitious deployment targets.
Your ability to evaluate projects, on both a quantitative and qualitative basis will be the mark of success in this role.

You will be responsible for project-based financial modeling and the preparation of investment committee materials to assist investment decisions.

In addition to financial analysis, the ideal candidate will have the desire to “know enough to be dangerous” about topics ranging from energy markets, project engineering, construction, development, to key legal issues that impact the investment analysis of a particular project.

While the bulk of your work will focus on project-level deals, you will also analyze development platforms from time to time.

Your analysis will propel you toward success during deal negotiation and close:

 •  Support the development and negotiation of term sheets as you hone your understanding of the commercial points that drive acquisition agreements.
 •  Integrate the feedback of Scout team members into your project approach to achieve superior results.
 •  Implement long-term company strategy and initiatives related to wind and solar development.
 •  Mine ISO/RTO queues for potential targets.
 •  Research other changes in the markets to identify areas with high potential opportunities.
 •  Prepare proposals, presentations, and board papers as directed.

Your understanding of market and industry fundamentals will enable you to support our project identification and negotiation efforts:

You will join the M&A team, reporting directly to the Senior Manager of M&A. You will collaborate extensively with team members across the company as Scout continues to grow through both organic and strategic acquisition opportunities to bring high quality wind and solar projects into our pipeline for development.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have some or all of the following qualities:

 •  A Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Economics or quantitative field
 •  2-4 years of experience in project finance, energy development, or private equity with a thorough understanding of financial models and investment analysis
 •  Experience modeling renewable energy project finance using discounted cash flow.
 •  Experience with debt structures, with tax equity partnership experience a plus
 •  Experience with sell-side due diligence processes for renewable energy or project finance transactions
 •  Independent learner who can quickly apply lessons learned in one area to all other work areas
 •  Self-motivator with exceptional leadership and communication skills
 •  Strength in communicating verbally, in writing, and through presentation development
 •  Ability to concisely frame issues by providing context, analysis, recommendations and risk/benefit tradeoffs, both in written, verbal, and presentation format, to project teams and to senior management
 •  Demonstrated ability to work in a flat organization, successfully leveraging the expertise of multiple colleagues in different lines of reporting
 •  Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
 •  Willing and available to travel as needed, up to 10%

Organizational Fit:

 •  Strong project management, process development, and team-building skills. Experience working with cross-functional internal and external technical advisors and stakeholders.
 •  Ability to prioritize and deliver top-quality work product in multiple areas in a fast-paced work environment without direct supervision.
 •  Experience using influence rather than authority to achieve desired outcomes.
 •  Authorized to work in the United States.

Timeline and Location

We will review resumes for this role on an ongoing basis with a start date as soon as possible.

Our ideal candidate is located in Boulder, or would be willing to relocate to Boulder in order to be able to commute to our Boulder.
