About Cancer Research Communications:

Launched in 2021, Cancer Research Communications is the AACR’s open access journal and the newest member of the AACR journal ecosystem, publishing high-quality original research articles that report information of value to the cancer research community in a timely and rigorous fashion.
The journal’s scope spans the full breadth of cancer science and medicine, ranging across biochemical/molecular studies, tumor biology, systems biology, clinical-stage research, and population science. The journal also has special focus areas on immuno-oncology, emerging technologies, and health disparities research.
Cancer Research Communications provides an accessible option for authors seeking to publish their work with the AACR, and places an emphasis on conducting rigorous peer review while maintaining fast turn times to promote the rapid dissemination of original research findings to its readership.

Position Summary:

The AACR has an exciting opportunity for an individual passionate about the advancement of cancer science and medicine across its many and varied disciplines to join the editorial team of Cancer Research Communications as Assistant or Associate Editor, based on experience level.

The Assistant/Associate Editor, Cancer Research Communications, will assess submitted manuscripts and referrals from other journals in the AACR program. This person will also solicit submissions of high-quality cancer science and medicine original research, write and edit for the journal, and promote the journal through outreach and networking efforts.
As a key member of the team, the Assistant/Associate Editor, Cancer Research Communications, will have a highly visible role both within the Association and in the larger cancer research community.

Responsibilities:

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

 •  Evaluate initial submissions and work with the staff Senior Editor in overseeing peer-review processes.
 •  Collaborate with the staff of the nine “sibling” AACR journals to ensure good communication and promotion of synergistic opportunities.
 •  Communicate with authors, editors, reviewers, and readers regarding all aspects of the journal.
 •  Assist the Senior Editor with development, composition, and editing of content.
 •  Collaborate with the Editors-in-Chief and Senior Editor to identify and attract exceptional original research in cancer science and medicine across a broad array of disciplines.
 •  Represent the journal and the AACR at scientific meetings and institutional visits.
 •  Stay abreast of the field and develop excellent relationships with the research community.
 •  Contribute to policy implementation in conjunction with the Senior Editors and Editors-in-Chief.

Qualifications:

Required Education and Training:

 •  PhD or MD
 •  Authorized to work in the United States.

Preferred Qualifications and Experience:

 •  Expertise in cancer science.
 •  Publication record in cancer research.
 •  Familiarity with peer review processes.
 •  Ability to communicate directly with researchers and to translate technical scientific content to a diverse readership.
 •  Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
 •  Independent, self-motivated, consistently demonstrating initiative and commitment.
 •  Must be able to travel to relevant scientific meetings and research institutes.
