We’re growing rapidly and we’re seeking motivated, customer oriented, passionate coworkers to join us. We’re currently seeking a Patient Collections Specialist located in Leawood, KS. Our Patient Support Specialists handle inbound outbound phone calls and emails to patients explaining the costs for medical services.
They provide information on present/past due balances, arranging payment or repayment agreements with the patients, and assists with billing questions in a friendly, personable, and kind manner.

Essential Functions

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

 •  Handles multi-line calls from patients with questions related to statements they have received.
 •  Makes at least two outbound attempts to patients regarding outstanding balances to establish pay arrangements.
 •  Calculates and provides estimates for medical services/procedures to patients.
 •  Contacts patients regarding outstanding co-payments, deductibles, coinsurances, etc.
 •  Handles monthly distribution of patient statements and collection letters.
 •  Reviews and effectively communicates EOBs and denials to patients.
 •  Processes patient payments and or refund requests
 •  Uses eligibility tools to check eligibility and explain benefits to patients.
 •  Research & resolve outstanding claim issues as needed.
 •  Checks patient benefits through payer websites/portals.
 •  Uses the organization’s EMR system proficiently in performance of essential functions.
 •  Maintains all patient account credit balances.
 •  Reviews all accounts pending collection for accuracy each week per entity before submission.
 •  Generates collection letters and submits them to patients weekly.
 •  Displays a caring and responsive attitude and conducts all activities respecting patient, family and employee rights and expectations.
 •  Diffuses/resolves conflict by appropriately communicating with those involved This position will hold the responsibility of arranging repayment agreements with the patient and assisting in other parts of the billing office as needed.
 •  Documents concisely, precisely, and accurately on all records or documents as indicated by policy.
 •  Maintains confidentiality of patient and Center related business.

Qualifications

Education, Experience & Certifications:

 •  High School Diploma or equivalent
 •  Must possess a minimum of one year experience working in a medical setting
 •  Must possess experience in or knowledge of patient collections
 •  Must comply with all regulatory requirements including OSHA, HIPAA, Ascentist Policies and Procedures and Ascentist Employee Handbook

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

 •  Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology
 •  Demonstrates proven communication skills with the ability to convey written and verbal information accurately and effectively
 •  Demonstrates effective listening skills
 •  Ability to compose, type and assemble information in proper business form, including the ability to type at least 40 words per minute
 •  Proven ability to work concurrently on multiple projects with varying priorities in a fast paced, dynamic environment
 •  Proven record in attendance, demonstration of reliability and dependability in prior roles
 •  Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community
 •  Demonstrates effective time management with the ability to plan and organize work, adjust schedule and duties as requested and work overtime as needed
 •  Demonstrates friendly, personal, and timely customer service skills
 •  Demonstrates proficiency using computer, software, and Internet Technologies (Outlook, Word, Excel, Internet Explorer, Windows)
 •  Demonstrated ability to effectively use general office equipment including phones, fax machines, copiers, and other similar office technology on a regular basis
 •  Demonstrated ability to maintain accuracy and attention to detail in an ever-changing environment.
 •  Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality in performance of essential functions

 •  Vision must be corrected to near 20/20
 •  Hearing must be in normal range or corrected to the normal or near normal range
 •  Must be willing and able to travel to other locations as needed
