The National Board of Examiners in Optometry (NBEO) is seeking a Clinical Examinations Operations and Site Assistant to assist the organization.

Founded in 1951, the National Board of Examiners in Optometry is an independent, non-governmental, non-profit organization whose examinations are universally accepted for optometric licensure in the United States and internationally. NBEO’s mission is to protect the public by developing, administering, scoring, and reporting results of valid examinations that assess competence in optometry.
NBEO has a full-time staff of 22 and utilizes over 100 optometrists as subject matter experts nationwide in support of its examination programs. NBEO is one of the few national boards in any profession with a repertoire of exams that include computer-based tests, an advanced competence exam, and clinical skills test using standardized patients at the National Center of Clinical Testing in Optometry.

This role is a full-time, onsite position based in Charlotte, NC.

Reporting to the Associate Director of Clinical Examinations Operations, the Clinical Examinations Operations and Site Assistant is responsible for managing Standardized Patient encounter assignments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

 •  Standardized Patient scenario encounter case management; this includes working collaboratively with Clinical Examination Directors, Psychometricians, and other pertinent staff to ensure proper protocols are followed
 •  Provide smooth front desk operations by ensuring proper front desk staffing and providing assistance to front desk personnel as necessary
 •  Verify candidate eligibility in advance of examination day (daily task)
 •  Assist with candidate registrations and rescheduling issues (daily task)
 •  Manage NCCTO emails and phone calls; provide professional correspondence as would be expected of NBEO
 •  Monitor for any candidate emergencies (illness, travel difficulties, etc.) and assist as needed
 •  Assist NCCTO team with examination flow and any same day issues
 •  Ensure proper standardization protocols are followed at every step in clinical examinations given at NCCTO
 •  Function as a back-up to AV Control as well as Standardized Patient scheduling, recruiting, on-boarding and off-boarding as needed
 •  Ensure that all exam materials and sensitive information are secure
 •  Serve as a back-up Standardized Patient as requested
 •  Assist with ensuring proper ADA accommodations are provided to candidates as approved
 •  Assist with ordering supplies and cleaning equipment as needed
 •  Perform other duties at the direction of one of the Clinical Examinations Directors or the Executive Director as requested

Qualifications

Associate’s degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Additional General Skills Required: Able to work collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary team, excellent written and oral communication skills, ability to handle complex tasks, strong organizational skills, ability to balance multiple competing priorities and maintain a high degree of responsiveness.
Some travel may be required for this position.
