Overview:

Closet America is looking for a Operations Controller to join our team! The Operations Controller is responsible for the oversight of compliance with Company accounting policies and procedures, including generally accepted accounting principles (“GAAP”) and financial reporting requirements.

What You'll Do:

 •  Oversees the daily accounting activities, which includes the timely recording of all transactions, required to maintain the general ledger
 •  Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure
 •  Supervises, directs, and reviews the work of the accounting staff
 •  Ensure the timely and accurate monthly general ledger close and reporting of all monthly financial information to include preparation of financial statements for divisions/entities/projects, including internal management reports and external reports for lenders, the Board, and other stakeholders
 •  Assist with creating a consistent view of financial performance across each entity to enable better data-driven decision making for P&L owners and senior management
 •  Generating and distributing financial statements to management personnel
 •  Supports the design and implementation of effective internal controls over financial reporting
 •  Assists with identifying, evaluating, and managing financial risks
 •  Work with executive leadership to ensure that the company has an effective risk management framework in place with robust governance and internal controls
 •  Supports budget and forecasting activities, including budget, and forecast variance analyses
 •  Collaborates with the other Accounting / Finance department managers to support overall department goals and objectives
 •  Maintains and organizes a set of detailed records and files to document financial transactions
 •  Assists with company cash flow reporting, which includes actual to forecast reporting on a weekly basis
 •  Monitors and analyzes department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy
 •  Advises staff regarding the handling of non-routine reporting transactions
 •  Responds to inquiries from the Division Leader, CFO, VP-Controller, regarding financial results, special reporting requests, etc.
 •  Work with the VP-Controller to ensure a clean and timely year-end audit, including any ad-hoc insurance premium audits.
 •  Assists the CFO and VP-Controller with identifying areas where the company has financial exposure as a result of how processes are currently being carried out.
 •  Assist management of the division with overhauling the process to reduce any financial risk to an acceptable level
 •  Assist in development and implementation of new procedures and features to enhance the workflow of the department
 •  Provide training to new and existing staff as needed
 •  Handle personnel issues relating to hiring, staff conflicts, absenteeism, performance issues, etc., in accordance with Company policy
 •  Work with each direct report to establish goals and objectives for each year and monitor and advise on the progress to enhance the professional development of staff
 •  Support VP-Controller with special projects and workflow process improvements

What You'll Bring:

 •  A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in accounting
 •  CPA Preferred
 •  Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
 •  Ability to develop and establish financial policies and procedures
 •  Advance use of Excel
 •  Strong understanding of job costing
 •  Excellent communication skills
 •  Management skills in Computer Operations
 •  10+ years professional accounting experience, audit experience preferred
 •  5+ years supervisory experience
