About Academy of Visual and Performing Arts

Academy of Visual and Performing Arts is a 6-12th grade, tuition-free public charter school for students in Fort Worth, Texas. Our mission is to provide a safe, challenging learning environment that cultivates our students’ academic and artistic excellence.
We exist to ensure that all students are provided with equitable opportunities to Learn In The Arts and Learn Through The Arts.

Type: Work hours are generally 8:15 am - 4:45 pm.

SUMMARY

As an Academy of Visual and Performing Arts substitute teacher, core responsibilities, at a minimum, include:

Report to the Assistant Principal - Culture or Office Manager upon arrival at the school building.

Review with the Assistant Principal, department head, or team leader all plans and schedules to be followed during the teaching day.

Enable students to continue their education with minimal interruption in the absence of the regular classroom teacher.

Maintain effective classroom management and supports building-wide standards and policies for safety and health.

Take student attendance.

Teaches the lesson outlined and described in the lesson plans as prepared by the absent teacher.

Monitor and assist student learning, use assessment, and re-teaching according to teacher's directions.

Assumes responsibility for overseeing student behavior in class and during teacher-assigned locations and times.

Completes a summary of work completed at the end of each teaching day and leaves it for the regular classroom teacher.

Follows all policies, rules, and procedures to which regular teachers are subject and which good teaching practice dictates

Maintains required inventory, equipment, and records.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

First and foremost, candidates must have an unwavering commitment to the Academy of Visual and Performing Arts’ mission and willingness to go above and beyond to meet the needs of AVPA students, families, and staff. Additionally, for this position, we’re looking for candidates that possess a combination of the following skills:

High School Diploma or GED

Proof of completion of a minimum of 48 accredited hours at an institution of higher education (Transcripts must reflect all coursework and will be kept for your employee file.)

Completion of the AVPA Substitute Orientation Process

Must be available to work at least two (2) days per week, as needed (Mondays and Fridays are preferred).

Ability to substitute in all grade-levels and subjects (e.g. special education and physical education).

Have the interpersonal skills to work well with children, parents, and school staff

Successful criminal background check required

What We Offer

Academy of Visual and Performing Arts’ compensation philosophy is to pay competitively for the PK-12 charter market to ensure equity across our institution. The daily rate for this role is $80.00 to $125.00. AVPA is committed to internal pay equity throughout our organization.
Because of this, we do not negotiate salary offers outside our salary bands.
