Electrical Engineering Technologist
About This Role
This is an on-site, full-time role for an Electrical Engineering Technologist, based in Edmonton, AB. The role involves contributing to the design, analysis, and troubleshooting of electrical distribution systems and utility power systems. Responsibilities include creating electrical designs, assisting with system upgrades, conducting instrumentation tasks, and ensuring compliance with technical standards.You will be part of a team of engineers and technologists working on aerial and underground distribution projects (both new construction and maintenance) in the City of Edmonton.
Minimum Requirements2 year Diploma for Electrical Engineering Technologist or Bachelors of Science in Electrical Engineering
Canadian Driver's License
Registered member of APEGA or ASET
Drafting experience in AutoCAD or MicroStation an asset
Experience in Distribution Line design an asset
QualificationsProficiency in Electrical Design and Electrical Engineering principles
Strong Troubleshooting skills for diagnosing and resolving technical challenges
Knowledge in Instrumentation and Electricity systems
Excellent analytical and organizational skills
Ability to work effectively in an on-site team environment
Bachelor's degree or diploma in Electrical Engineering or related field
Experience in utility distribution, infrastructure upgrades, or similar environments is a plus
Familiarity with software tools for electrical design and analysis is an asset
Responsibilities
You will be trained in the design of overhead and underground line distribution system up to 25kV. Your responsibilities typically include the following:
Detailed design of overhead and underground projects such as:
Primary line rebuilds and extensionsPrimary line voltage conversions
Installation and replacement of single and three phase primary line equipment
Revamp of facilities
Low voltage correction
Overloaded transformer replacement and secondary load splitting
Replacement of damage facilities
Life cycle replacement of existing facilities such as poles, lines, transformers, switching cubicles, etc.
Customer service applications
Relocation and removal of facilities
Perform calculations such as:
Wire sag, tension and swingCalculation of the most economic ruling span
Wire clearances
Pole selection based on calculated loadings (wind, snow/ice, equipment and conductors)
Guy and anchor calculation and analysis
Secondary wire sizing and loading
Load calculation to ensure proper transformer sizing and loadingVoltage drop calculation
Software: SPIDA Calc, Quick Pole, PLS-CADD, MicroStation.
