Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) Registered Nurse — 13-week Travel RN contract in Durham, NC caring for pediatric cardiac and critically ill patients. Join a leading pediatric cardiac ICU and make a meaningful impact on neonates, infants, children, and adolescents with complex congenital heart disease.
Key Job Details- Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,910 – $2,010
- Location: Durham, NC 27710 (Durham, North Carolina | Research Triangle area)
- Contract Duration: 13 weeks (May 18, 2026 – August 17, 2026)
- Position: Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) Registered Nurse / Travel RN
- Shift: Nights, 12-hour (19:00 – 07:30)
- Hours per Week: 36
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Floating: Required
- Orientation: Bi-weekly, 36 hours
- Minimum 1 year of PICU RN experience caring for critically ill pediatric patients
- Current North Carolina RN license or Compact RN in hand
- Valid BLS and PALS certifications required
- Experience with Epic electronic charting preferred
- Previous charge nurse experience preferred
- Experience in Trauma Level I/II, LTAC, or community hospital settings is a plus
- Flu vaccine required (no exemptions)
- One supervisory reference from the past year required
- Provide high-quality critical care nursing for pediatric cardiac and PICU patients, including neonates, infants, children, and adolescents
- Manage and monitor advanced life support devices: VADs, ECMO, CRRT, ventilators, arterial lines
- Administer medications, blood products, and chemotherapy per protocols
- Perform and assist with specialized procedures such as intubation, lumbar puncture, and central line care
- Interpret arterial blood gases (ABGs), hemodynamics, and dysrhythmias for clinical decision-making
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including respiratory therapy, pharmacy, physical therapy, social services, and IV teams
- Maintain strict infection control and isolation precautions in the PICU and pediatric cardiac ICU
- Float to other units as required and participate in bi-weekly orientation and ongoing training modules
