Senior Business Intelligence (BI) Developer

Overview:

The Senior BI Developer will be responsible for transforming raw data into actionable business insights. They will lead the design, development, and deployment of end-to-end business intelligence solutions, utilizing expertise in data modeling, DAX, and Power Query for the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA).

Responsibilities:

  • End-to-End Reporting: Design, develop, and maintain comprehensive Power BI reports and dashboards, managing the entire lifecycle from initial data connection to final visualization.
  • Data Transformation: Utilize Power Query for advanced data cleaning and transformation, converting complex, unstructured data into clean, structured models.
  • Data Modeling: Organize and connect different data sources efficiently so that reports load quickly and retrieve accurate information.
  • Advanced Calculations: Write and maintain complex DAX and M-Query formulas, including calculated columns and measures, to support deep analytical requirements.
  • Systems Integration: Manage data extraction and integration, with a specific focus on utilizing and pulling data from SharePoint Lists.
  • Automation: Implement workflow automations using Power Automate to schedule data refreshes and trigger necessary alerts or notifications.
  • Quality Assurance: Conduct rigorous validation checks to ensure absolute data accuracy, ensuring that dashboard metrics perfectly align with source files.
  • Insight Generation: Analyze raw data sets to identify emerging trends, spot outliers, and deliver actionable insights to business stakeholders.

Qualifications:

Skills/ Qualifications:

  • Power BI Mastery: Expert-level proficiency in building end-to-end reports and interactive visualizations.
  • DAX & M-Query Language: Advanced proficiency in writing complex formulas, measures, and calculated columns.
  • Data Modeling: Proven ability to structure and link data efficiently for optimal report performance.
  • Expert Excel: Mastery of advanced Excel formulas and functions for data analysis and validation.
  • SharePoint Lists: Specific expertise in creating, managing, and extracting data seamlessly from SharePoint environments.
  • Data Analysis: Strong capability to examine raw data and synthesize it into clear trends, outliers, and actionable business intelligence.
  • Data Accuracy: Meticulous attention to detail with a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of data integrity and consistency between dashboards and source systems.
  • Power Automate: Working knowledge of Power Automate for automating data pipeline refreshes and notification triggers (Preferred).
  • PL-300 or DA-100 Certification (Preferred).

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • A minimum of ten (10) years Federal Government experience as military, civilian, or contractor.
  • Experience in Federal Government acquisition, financial management and/or audit readiness (Preferred).
  • Power Query: Extensive experience in data cleaning, shaping, and transformation.
  • Experience working with and briefing senior level DoD personnel; excellent verbal and written communication and organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience working in a time-sensitive environment with a high-level of accountability.

Clearance Requirements: Must possess an active Secret security clearance and be eligible for immediate SCI nomination and indoctrination. Must be a U.S. Citizen.
